Couple questions regarding the map updates-

How often does Ford update these maps? I bought a left over 2015 late last year. The SD card says it is version A6. According to the Ford owner site, the latest is A7 (for US and Canada). I would rather not purchase A7 (at $149) if the release of A8 is right around the corner. The Ford Owner web site that shows changes from the previous version lists an 18 month period. The salesman at my dealer said that Ford never updates these maps, but that could be because they didn't want to provide me a new map for a truck that had been sitting on their lot for a year and a half.

Has anyone attempted to use a different source file for the map other than what's available from Ford? For example, I have a Garmin Nuvi 660 on my motorcycle. I know where the map data file is. Has anyone attempted to use something like this? The Garmin has free lifetime map updates, so..... I couldn't be so lucky for them to have the same file format, could I?

I would NOT purchase the A7 version as A8 should be released vey soon. I have been watching the website daily for the latest version to be released. I have also filled out the request to be notified by email when the new version becomes available.

 

2017 with nav, and i have yet to find an SD slot, its not under the radio like my 2015 and its not in the center console, I have not checked the glovebox.... I am thinking its either gonna be OTA (wifi) or via USB

what i have read it they do the updates in the fall

 

Sync 3 doesn't have an SD Card slot for Navigation

 

I think the last SD slots were on the 2015s.

SYNC 3's maps are integrated and will be able to update via USB. More details will be available once an update is released.

I just bought one on Ebay , the A8 SD card for $76+$16 shipping. Works great! That was a hint from my salesman at Ford LOL

 

Yeah, I got mine from the official site in July. I paid about double what you did...!

 

Like others, I just don't understand why it takes so long for updates. My wife's BMW gets an annual update. My previous vehicle got them every year. I don't personally update every year, but it is available if I wanted to. My 2016 F150 still doesn't have one and it is now two years old.
