Starting issues
Merry Christmas! I have a 16 f150 5.0 and the last few days I have noticed a starting issue. I’m leaning on it being a bad starter but just curious to see if someone else has had this issue. Sometimes truck won’t start and starter sounds like it’s free spinning and sometimes it sounds like it wants to start but I feel a clunk and it stops attempting. Sounds like an issue with the starter solenoid which means, more than likely, a starter replacement is what's needed. If that is the case, I would replace it with a brand new starter depending on how long you plan on keeping the truck. Rebuilt/remanufactured electrical components are crap in many cases. JMO
My preference would be OEM... Rockauto has the OEM for $228 before core return.
The Pure Energy, AC Delco and BBB remans say FoMoCo if you want to save on the cost. There is a new BBB and it looks the same as Motorcraft. Maybe any of those would be fine, no personal experience with them.

As others have said, definitely sounds like a starter. And as the above post says, OEM is the way to go for sure. But if OEM is hard to come by, I would just get one from an auto parts store as long as it includes a decent warranty. Swapping a starter is not a difficult job, and there are plenty of videos out there.
My 2015 5.0 started did the same thing Sunday after church. Then again this morning when I left the dentist, but it only does it once, and both times its after having been driven in the previous hour or two. It sorta sounded like the starter solenoid engages, then disengages but still spins, then reengages.
Since its done it twice, I'll try to pay more attention to it the next time I start it.

So mine finally started not starting more than starting..
I had a wrench pop up on the dash. Yesterday at lunch it acted like the transmission was slipping but no check engine light.
Trying to leave work, it didn't want to start. It finally started so I headed home, check engine light came on, so I stopped by Napa.
P0339 code, Crankshaft Position Sensor A Circuit. Which explains the stalling. The part was $24 and took 45 minutes to swap out.
I had hoped maybe that was the issue all along, tried to start it, nope. The starter spins, but the bendix (do they still have a bendix?)
didn't kick out to engage the ring gear. Took it to O'Reilly's to test. It did the same thing, so I took a thing out of the tray and tapped
the solenoid like you always had to do on an old Chevy and what do you know, it kicked over and passed.
Now, no local parts store sells just a solenoid. I've found them online for $30. O'Reilly's shows two starters for a 2015 F150 5.0, one
for a truck made before 4/27/2015 for $289 and one made after 4/27/2015 for $237. If you buy a reman starter, they don't ask the
question so I don't know what the difference is. And yes, mine was manufactured 1/2015. The truck has almost 159k, I can afford
the $289, but 1/10 of the price that would fix it is attractive too. I may call my local starter/alternator shop and see if they can just
replace the solenoid or just sell me one.
