Oh, why not...I'll chime in...

I leave mine in all the time as well. If that bothers you OP, then this will REALLY bother you: I don't own a damn thing to tow! Although I might hook up to a utility trailer at work once or twice a year.

Funny I saw this thread-I just saw in another thread where a user recommended to keep one in the receiver because its great insurance against parking lot mishaps. I can attest to that. Guy at work backed into my old truck. His dual exhaust caught right on my receiver hitch. Score: Ford 1, Dodge 0.

Don't be looking at your smart phone while walking through parking lots and you might not walk into a receiver hitch ball mount.
Only ******* back up over a sidewalk with a receiver hitch ball mount installed.
Why should I take my ball mount out just to have to re-install it later?
And I don't back up over sidewalks.

Default Hitch on

Well I have no interest in reading all the reasons to remove it
other than banging into it when walking around the truck
I did have a jack wagon at a gas station drive up behind me at the gas pump and stopped after he stoved in his bumper
A GOOD REASON TO LEAVE IT ON !!

Mine stays on 24/7 because I never know when I'm going to need it and I'm sure as hell not going to have it bouncing around in the back of the bed. And quite frankly if you bang your shin on my hitch your to close to my truck in the first place so it serves you right.

Like others I tend to leave mine in most of the time out of convenience - hassle to undo the hitch lock pin and put it inside the cab every time I park (it would get stolen if I put it in the bed).

My pet peeves:
-people that don't back into parking spaces in confined parking areas (not open lots like big box DIY stores but typically the covered ones in metro areas). Cars by far are the worst offenders; I usually see a large percentage of trucks that do this. Once rear cameras are mandatory on all vehicles (I believe that day will come soon), no excuse to not do this, it's a safety thing mainly, and will prevent 90% of those dreaded parking lot fender-benders.
-speaking of big box store lots, if you do back into a space with your truck, some knucklehead will, with 99% surety, drive into the space in back of your truck with their front bumper 2" from your rear one, such that you can't lower the tailgate to load the 'stuff' you just bought. Reason enough for me to institute capital punishment if your state does not already have it...

In Ontario it's actually illegal to leave them in when not towing. That being said it's one of those laws that aren't enforced.

We need the "eating popcorn" smily here......

I wish I had such time on my hands to worry about what everyone else is doing with their hitches/draw bars/towing apparatus

Can a hard enough hit to your ball mount tweak your frame or is that an urban myth?
