Haha I tow nothing and don't even own a hitch yet, but I might buy one and put it in now that I know there are people out there getting their panties in a wad about it and making posts about it in truck forums. I'm with the other guy, if you smack your shin on a hitch in a parking lot you are walking too close. Plus my truck is in the back of that lot, why you near it?

Of course, if I do this i have to take out my hitch cover which I like a lot. Decisions decisions

I leave mine in, and use it as a step. Don't like? Shut your eyes.

I'm with OP on this one. Especially when the hitch is still in the receiver and the truck is backed into a parking space along a walkway. The back end of the truck already takes up half the walkway then the hitch is sticking out more. Inconsiderate ******.

In that case I could see it being annoying if it's over a sidewalk. But even then it's life man, there will always be obstacles in the path and you are in control of your shins, so ultimately your fault. I know a lot of guys that tow regularly and I think it would be annoying to take out my hitch and put it back in every time

I keep a cheapo trailer hitch ball in the receiver at all times and I never tow...

In Texas there are a LOT of uninsured drivers and I got bumped "love tap" in stop and go traffic several times ... The trailer hitch will protect your truck bumper from scratches / dents and slow "love taps" won't damage your frame (check the hitch pin ... If it's not bend/ deformed ... You're fine). A $40 trailer hitch is cheaper than a $250 uninsured driver claim and the hassle...

If you bump into my trailer hitch while walking past my truck - you're WAY to close. No need to walk within inches behind someone's trucks ...

Yes, it hurts when you hit your shin on a hitch, but again why are you walking within 6 inches of my truck?

This sounds like an OCD problem, not a hitch problem. Take it from someone with a mild case of OCD.

Good luck
This...stay away from my truck!

I don't see what the big deal is. Some people tow frequently/for work purposes and it's probably convenient to leave it in there all the time, my 2 cents.

Agree. Hate it when people use my bumper as an indication of when to stop, so the ball stays on. Has nothing to do with proving my manhood, just a penalty for a-holes that can't drive/park, or those that don't watch where they are walking.

Just make sure you lube it up before you stick it in the hole.

Yes, that applies here too.
