The Ecodiesel is best for you. For towing light to medium loads VERY often, the Ecodiesel will pay for itself in short order, especially when gas prices stabilize. Your situation is rare, but for you the ecodiesel would be the best bet.

It is hard for me to understand why people today say the diesel is going to outlast a gas motor. I see it said all of the time. No one is selling new 5.9 Cummins anymore. The ecodiesel was made for small euro applications and now it is in rams for the mpg only. I bet the average 3.5 EB outlasts an ecodiesel over the same driving conditions, not to mention the cost for maintenance savings. Heck we have a 2 owner 1997 f150 4.6 with 399,900k with original drivetrain.
The ones I know, including myself, always planned on getting rid of their new diesels before the warranty runs out.
Like it has been stated, diesels just don't pencil very well for most new buyers.
Who knows, maybe 5 years from now the ecodiesel could prove itself...

I will get flak for this, but the ecoboost (2.7L & 3.5L) is probably the worst truck for your situation. The 5.0L with tall gears would even do better (see latest pickuptrucks.com test) or even lightly used 3.7L would be better. The money you save up front on the V-6 would buy a lot of gas. The 3.5L NA looks to be a turd and has not been proven yet.

Everybody thinks diesels are better because they a built to run at 30 to 1 compression, or whatever, but they can break too.

I did test tow with the ecoboost and 5.0 and for my truck I chose the Eco. I don't tow as much as the guys who work for me do. The 3.7 just does not have the power needed for the parachute we pull around. I test towed with the Eco diesel and the power was there and the mileage was great. Especially compared to the 6.2 f-250 that we are replacing.

Seriously....and it has a lower towing capacity? Good luck Fran...ram. Motor Trend Junk of the Year.... :IMO:
Im more pissed that "eco" was coined already by GM "ecotec" almost a decade before the first "ecoboost" F150 rolled out in North America.

Im driving a "name piece" that was ripped off, and then ripped off by someone else.

Oh the insanity

I drove a few Rams while anxiously waiting for my 15' F150 to arrive. Couldn't get over the fact that a telescopic steering wheel was not available even on top models!! Not even a manual telescopic wheel?? Come on man!!!!

I noticed that also my wife has a grand Cherokee I thought they would be pretty close to that interior . But I just need it for a work truck so as long as it is comfortable and saves me money in the long run.

I don't know why your on the F150 forum looking for justification for switching to the Ecodiesel. Buy it and move on. Good luck with the Def fluid, oil changes, and diesel fuel prices. :blink/thumbsup:
