Hello, is anyone here familiar with programming the smart keys?
I just puchased a new to me 2017 F-150 platinum with remote start and tailgate release. The dealership gave me one key that was already programmed, and gave me another similar key but it is meant for a ford car. It has all the same buttons except instead of a tailgate release, it has a trunk button. They told me that it will work perfectly fine with my truck if I get it programmed. So far the locksmiths I've called wouldn't even entertain the idea of trying. Does anyone know if this is even possible before I keep trying to find a good locksmith. I would go back to the dealership I bought from but they're over five hours away.
“From my understanding, you need to get the truck into program mode. I don't have my truck yet, but other Fords actually have a program button under the the instrument panel. I did find this in another Ford forum but I don't know if this will work on the 2015 F-150:
1. Open Hood
2. press and hold brake pedal
3. press and hold program/overide button
4. press start button, car should not start with hood open. Mine started, HOWEVER....
5. I got the three horn chirps, and then pressed the start button on the remote and got the accompanying 1 horn chirp to confirm programming of the remote.”
That thread refers to this page from the Mustang manual. Make sure the key is button side down. Instead of the cup holder, the F150 key goes in the compartment beneath HVAC controls. Pull the rubber out of the bottom and you’ll see a key shaped mold.
Hey, thank you for the reply bro. This process only works if you have two existing programmed keys already. Otherwise you must have someone with the right tools to program it to the truck manually.
If it was a dealer that sold you the truck take the key back and tell them to program it they have the resources. If it was a Ford dealer they can do it in 5 minutes with IDS.
receipts are easy to copy and forward for reimbursement. I don't know about your fob but if you aren't sure about what you have you can get the reconditioned mating fobs on ebay at reasonable cost. The cut key would need to swap between the present and a new. Some Ford dealers will program another key for a cyber hack ransom and some will do it free as a courtesy. I happened into the later when I got a third key. The dealer I bought from wanted $110 to program it, I went to another and they didn't blink an eye took my keys and their laptop programming the fob as I watched, a 5 minute ordeal. You know which dealer I use for service now.
