Push button start or Key
Yeah, I'm not surprised. As I said elsewhere, most things are going to nothing more than turn on/off features in a monolithic unit. They aren't doing ignition different for each trim level just up-selling the more desirable options.
Still my preference remains for a key that can, when turned off, completely stop the operation of the machine (engine) outside the control of any computer system. There should always be a way to do that that does not require the consent of a processor.
When I bought my truck the finance manager tried for 10 minutes to sell me extended coverage. He kept pointing out how much gadgetry there is on new vehicles that have no long term reliability proven. Good thing he wasn't selling the truck. But, I could still walk. I can remember when the big push was for credit life insurance. I guess they wore that one out or it became illegal or something.
Yeah we had to cut that conversation short. I had already been there most of the day and then the "OMG these computers can just fail left and right and then where will you be". I asked if that was so common that I should expect a failure inside the warranty period? Because if that's the case then I'm actually not interested in purchasing the vehicle. That seemed to put an end to that particular line of sales pressure.
