Default Payload differences between model years?

My truck is a 2018 supercrew, 2.7, 502A, pano, step, 20's, 3.55 elock and has a very low payload of 1176. My coworker's truck is the same configuration, except a 2019 model year with the FX4 package added. His payload is better 1284. I would have guessed his payload to be the same or less as the FX4 package would only add weight. Is there something different about the 2019? Did the way payload was calculated change between 2018 and 2019? Trying to wrap my head around it while I search for the right 3.5 with max tow.

What does the sticker say for GVWR for each of your trucks? They have not changed how they calculate payload. So either his truck is missing some (heavy) option that you have or he has the payload package and some heavy options that you do not have (36 gal tank, etc). FX4 can't add much weight, its mostly some tinfoil skid plates and stickers...but maybe he has the 9.75" rear end for some reason and you have the 8.8.

The payload package for 2019 bumps the GVWR up from 6600# to 6900#. so if he has the bigger tank, thats 62# just for the fuel, call it 50# for FX4 (gotta be less though) maybe he has a hitch and you don't? That would get it close to the numbers you listed.

That seems low. My payload on my Limited is 1,221. The only thing that I don't have are the retractable side steps.

Reality check: Your co-worker's payload is also very low, only a 108lb difference. That amount of weight is very easily hidden in just a few accessories you have that he may not.

Can confirm FX4 does not add much. The UCP's are VERY light, they are about as light duty as you can get. The plastic rear blocks, almost as negligible as the stickers. Maybe a pound or two extra in the springs. Check the GVWR on both to see if they have the same rating.

Nice ! Did you get MaxTow? I do not have any of your options mentioned. Maybe my extra 36 gal tank size hurts me a tad? The payload takes into account a full tank of gas and 150# person.

Below is a spec of 2018 of what ordered options will weigh or take away from your payload. I would guess not much changes over the years, 2021 might be a game changer?

So just to clarify. If my truck has a payload rating of 1891 lbs, it's still 1891 lbs if i have a full tank of gas and me in the truck ( let's pretend i'm 150lbs)? I think I already knew about the full gas tank but didn't know you could have another 150lbs ( driver) and it not affect the payload number.

EDIT: Just read your PDF. Does not include a 150lb driver

"The weight of the vehicle including standard equipment, oil, lubricants and a full tank of fuel. It does not include the weight of driver, passengers, cargo or any optional or aftermarket equipment"

Thanks for that, I didn't catch that did not include driver. Seems there just isn't a standard that everyone follows, my former GMC I thought I read it included 150# driver.

I thought the high end trim levels had better payloads. I have the cheapest truck, weakest engine, purest bare bones truck with a payload of 1976.
