Bass - The ford fleet specs:
https://www.fleet.ford.com/truckbbas...SB_Updates.pdf

show a max GVWR of 10,000lb so mine is 1800lb away and definitely not a common find in the world of F150's. So, no the F150 is not close to the F250 GVWR.

As far as the axles, no, the rear axle on my truck has the same semi floating axle type as your 1/2 ton truck:
https://www.google.com/search?q=full...l%3B2260%3B987

The F250 has a full floating rear axle where the axle housing carries the weight and the axle shaft carries only the torque.

I haven't looked but I'm sure the frame is different too.

Good info

I was referring to final payload as cutting into the Super Duty market. My 2006 is just shy of 1500lbs payload. Shave 400lbs off in aluminum and make it 2wd and you've got an exceptional payload rating. I know the Superdutys carry more than 3/4 & 1-ton; I'm just trying to rationalize why Ford is lowering the GVWR of a the new F150 that for "almost all intents and purposes" is the same with an aluminum body.

As far as frame, I'm sure they have changed it slightly, I just meant it's the same overall design (fully boxed) as in we didn't make any drastic change that would effect GVWR, especially not lower it.

I'm just pointing out that as far as components go, the 2015 is basically a 04-14 f150 with an Aluminum body. Why did the GVWR decrease? My only guess was my previous post that maybe Ford felt it would push into F250 sales.

Looking it up, Ford sold 521,515 F150's in 2013
In 2012 they sold 67,786 F250's. That's almost 10 to one.
I'll bet that the competition outside Ford is their bigger concern.

That is a treasure trove of info. A cursory look at those stickers would indicate that the moonroof really doesn't add as much weight as we have suspected to this point. All Lariats with similar equipment seem to be hovering around 1650 give or take regardless of moonroof. The XLT seems to jump you up to 1800 lbs.

He was simply saying that a non-Hd F-150 with over 2000 lbs payload would cannibalize F-250 sales and confuse the buyer so GVWR was lowered. Are we all clear on this??

This XLT is on my local lot. It's a SCREW with the 5.0 and short box. I was surprised that it was listed at 1950lbs payload. I wonder if the lack of front console helped with the weight.

Fully loaded platinum. 3.5 EB with FX4. 3.55, all the options that werent late availability like max tow and wheel liners.

Just about enough payload to get the groceries home from the store.
