Who said it was a great idea? I didn't see where anyone said it was. Sorry if your's is leaking. Maybe if we have a pity party for you, you'll feel better?

I am disappointed with your response of a "pity party" considering that you have senior membership status.. I'm new to this website and rather new to the internet so I am sorry if I accidently directed my comment to you.
This is what I replyed to posted on 11 04 19 seeing that you could not find it. I also took exception with his comment "haters gotta hate".

Default" My 2017 2.7L ecoboost has the plastic pan and I love it. not one leak yet. knock on paper (no wood around)

I did buy a new drain plug - to have one on hand if needed. but I'm still using the OE one 5 oil changes later, and about to do number 6

Meanwhile The plastic pan is a great idea despite complaints. One thing to know is the plastic pan isn't a structural member of the engine block - like some deep cast AL pans are. Meaning it's not pre-stressed.

They have made updates to the seals and I believe the newest ones use an incorporated removable seal and no longer use sealant.

haters gotta hate though. "

I was showing sympathy for other owners of Ford products with continuing problems with their 2.7 plastic oil pans. I've have a 2010 FX4 crew cab for just over a year. Higher mileage ( 330,000 km ), loaded with options, typical 5.4 issues. My wife and I love my truck so much that she just bough a fully loaded 2016 Lincoln MKX Reserve. Because of the mileage ( 162,000 KM ) the dealer couldn't offer any warranty. They did however fully service and certify the MKX. Their record showed they just replaced the oil pan. Now just 3000 km later there is an oil drip and smell of burning oil both inside and outside of the MKX. I'm NOT at the point of 3rd, 4th or 5th oil pan so save your unwanted pity for someone who is very sensitive. Read : yourself.

my 2018 2.7L has a build date of 07/18, does it have a metal pan or plastic?

Bought/ordered (2) new 2019 F150 XLT 4x4 with off-road package. Both build dates August 2019. Both have plastic pan and plug. NOT HAPPY!

Just a quick note for all.

2018 oil pan fits on the 2017. Just buy the 2018 oil pick with it. Oil pickup is about $20.

I swapped out the plastic pan on my 2017 to the 2018 and had to change the oil pick to get the 2018 oil pan to mate up with the engine block.

We took our 2016 Lincoln MKX Reserve with a 2.7 into a Ford dealership for an oil leak problem. The same issue was repaired just 3000 kms ago ( 3 months ) by a different Ford dealership in a different city. Replace the oil pan was the solution both times. All the parts and labor costs were covered on warranty by Ford motor Company. We were told that previously the other dealer's tech used the wrong sealant. The method used this time was exactly as per the most recent TSB and all new parts including bolts were used. We were told the oil pan should not leak oil again. Here's hoping.
