Need some input
Hey guys,
So I've had my 2018 5.0 for almost two months and 1000 Miles and I've realized a lot more "quirks" then my 2011 I traded in with 100K miles without an issue. Ive listed my issues and if anyone can tell me if there's does it also it would be appreciated before I regret trading my old truck even more !
1) Prominent Thump/Clunk underneath when starting truck(tends to be more when trucks warm)- have anything to do with having fan blower on?
2) Seat reclines itself- happened twice so far, not hitting the button accidentally.
3) Engine rattle when let off throttle- if driving or at idle and I slowly press accelerator and stop it makes a rattle.
4) rear end binding/clunk when reverse- is there and TSB For greasing slip yoke like the 10-14s?
Other then these, I love the truck but it just kills me because my old truck made none of these noises or acted odd.
Thanks,
Tim

That clunk that you talk about when starting. I have the same sound on my 2018 2.7. It is kinda faint when cold started. If I drive around a while, stop somewhere for 10-30 mins and than restart, it is quite loud. I plan on bringing it in for this within the next couple of weeks. I believe there was a thread about this noise on 5.0's a week or so ago. It seemed everyone described it as the same thing I am hearing.
As luck would have it, a pretty good thread on the warm start clunk resurfaced today. Seems that the driveshaft is rotating during startup. Why it does this remains to be seen. A few in this thread have video of it.

Mine does it too. I had assumed it was something with the starter releasing as it seemed to be timed almost perfectly with it.

Well truck gets worked on tomorrow. Can't wait for ford to tell me that they can't hear the noise or can't replicate even though it does it 100% of the time.
It's sad that I have no confidence in dealers around me. LOL

#3 My '18 5.0 10sp does this when the engine is cold. 99% sure it's not the engine but the transmission. I was never able to replicate it at the dealer because it stops doing it within the first mile or two in the morning.

Well, I just heard back from Ford on my motor issue. Fortunately, my best friends brother happened to be the one who worked on my truck and he actually found the noise and got it to stop! It ended being something with the cam phasers, so he "exercised" each one individually, and currently the truck no longer is exhibiting the noise. He said he had no explanation why it did it, and that the cam phaser solenoid usually makes much harsher noises so he doesn't think that failed.
He said he's going to keep the truck overnight, check it in the morning and see if its still making the noise. So I guess I can be relieved a little for now because I got one problem under control.
