Default MPG Discrepancy

Hi,

I just bought a 2018 F-150 Sport 4x2 with 36 gal tank, factory 20" tires. I filled up today and the average MPG on the truck showed 19.5 mpg, I did the math between the miles driven and gallons filled and it comes up to 18.1 (574.7 miles, 31.702 gal). the trip was reset upon filling the last tank.
I don't know if this is normal but 1.4 mpg difference looks big.
Could this be that the computer in the car doesn't have the correct tire size?
Could it be corrected?

any help is appreciated,

Sam

Awesome, thanks, I should have searched. I thought it could be related to tire size and speed difference but I guess not.

thanks again

I did the "mod" and am spot on now. I did it last July and can trust what the truck says now. Filled up yesterday, the truck said 18.8 mpg and oddometer was 599 miles, that works out to needing 31.89 gallons to fill it up. Pump shut off at 31.77 gallons. Actual mileage was 18.85 mpg. Can't get much closer than that. It's just as accurate when towing as well.

Yup, marketing tool, plain and simple. My correction factor(so far, I'm still tweaking it) was 961/1000

I just finished the change, mine was 928, we'll see if the number matches next time.
Thanks for the help

My factor was 924....which seemed fairly drastic. My lifetime dropped from 22.2 to 20.6, which honestly broke my heart. I’ve checked 3 tanks randomly since making the adjustment and both were within hundredths of actual.

You've got me beat by close to 4 MPG lifetime, so there's that. But in fairness, mines only been run in winter, just got the truck in mid-December. I'm hopeful by next winter to have lifetime in the 17.5-18 range. I can live with that for 5.0 music and almost 400HP.

Yup, had 8 Fords with the LOM (Lie-O-Meter) and all of them are 1 - 1.5 mpg optimistic.. My newest one is the worst! Correction factor is 920!!! It's within .2 mpg +/- of actual now.
