I often get things like this off ebay. Look at store / Dealer selling. many OEM Dealers sell on ebay, legit. I used my points to buy oil and filters from Ford dealership. 3 oil filters, not even in a box, bulk that I had to put in a baggie. The thought of buying anything off a Dealer makes me cringe. I do agree about RockAuto, probably most reputable online auto source available.

Some dealers on eBay are legit and some are not, just a roll of the dice. I don't have a problem buying oil filters at the dealer without the box. Years ago when I changed the oil in my Hondas the filter at the dealer was always cheaper than the part stores (except for Fram but...) and the filters always had the plastic seal on it and they would throw in the crush washers for free.

Again, walk into Autozone. They’re right there on the shelf.

How are we over complicating buying something so simple as an oil filter. Don’t tell me we want to save a couple of dollars on what is already only an $8 filter.

Use Rockauto, Walmart or (gasp) the dealer.

The issue is not Amazon, it's the 3rd party sellers, if it's shipped and sold by Amazon, it's good.

That's a box, dang, and no filter inside? That sucks.

I should add that the Fram Ultra XG10575 is a slightly better filter than the FL500s, it does cost a little more though, i'll probably grab that one next.

I don't see a reason to spend more on a Fram when Motorcraft has always been dependable and very readily accessible.

It's only if you want it to filter a little better, the Motorcraft is a solid filter choice.

So, will the truck last 501,000 miles with the "slightly better filter" than only 500,000 miles with a Motorcraft? I doubt.

Fram has a history of problems and pushing Teflon Snake Oil Additives. Fram and K&N are two companies I can easily afford to avoid.

If you want slightly better filtration, then it's there for you.

The world of oil filters is far more mobile than you seem to think, and frankly, i'm glad something like the Motorcraft filters exist because it creates a solid stable base for us to count on and use. Fram Ultras are some of the best filters you can get these days, go back ten years, and they were utter ****e, purolators were the ones to go for, then about 5 years ago, riding high on their laurels, purolators went to the dogs.
Go back 30 years, Fram's were the ones to go for....

See where this is going? Anyway, i never said anyone had to go for a Fram Ultra, i said they're slightly better than the FL500s for filtration - do you need that? maybe, maybe not, better is better, doesn't always mean you'll see what better gets you.
