The hysteria over Fram oil filters is misplaced about construction methods and materials. My point is the filter media is fiber so what is the problem with fiber “cardboard” end plates on the media? Cut used filters open. If not torn then what is the problem?
Fiber is a description, not a material, cardboard endcaps are fibrous cardboard...

Filter construction changes every few years, so this isn't unexpected, and is my point i made earlier about keeping an eye on the popular filters and not using 10 year old data.

JC Whitney used to sell canisters to put a roll of toilet tissue inside as an oil filter.

I wish I had not thrown out my old JC Witney catalogs. They were so entertaining at the time. Would be even more entertaining today.

The point being the "appearance of cheap" makes no difference if the design works. If the filter media does not collapse, tear, or separate from the ends. These things can not be determined from a new filter, only a used filter. The YouTube sensationalists only cut new filters open.

If you’re looking for independent validation of filter performance I would suggest finding the most recent episode of Engine Masters on Motor Trend channel. They just did an evaluation that featured Fram, K&N, Wix, and Motorcraft. Motorcraft did well, but Wix and K&N were better.

I'm sure you can find them online for more fun.

I enjoy that show. It showed flow rate and micron size of each filter. The filters installed at the factory are made by WIX, not sure about Motorcraft brand filters.

I go to Walmart for all my oil and filters. They sell many OEM filters for vehicles, even my Toyota hybrid.

Walmart is so much cheaper than the Autozone/Advance/O'Reilly national auto parts stores that are taking advantage of their customers on motor oil. They qll buy oil literally by the train load from major manufacturers are extremely low prices. Only Walmart really discounts motor oils.

What's hard to find is 0W16 weight motor oil only used in hybrids. I used to have to order it on Amazon, but now Walmart carries one premium brand of the stuff.
