According to real test data the WIX filter, standard notthe racing one, is a much better filter than the Motorcraft in all respects such as micron rating, pressure loss, bypass valve, etc
Napa Gold filters are that exact Wix filter. Last one bought was around 13 bucks.

I wondered why motorcraft was the only filter that I've seen that has the bypass on the base end of the can. Ford owns the patient maybe?

Ford Racing doesnt make a FL500S version but refers you to their racing version 820 filter CM-6731-FL820.
Seen it in discussion on 1 of the mustang500 forums if anyone wants to research it for themselves.

Ive seen it noted on the web the FL820S had changed twice in the past couple decades.
The 1st change was the can reduced in size but still had motorcraft ink printed on the can & noted "Made in the USA".
The 2nd time (2020-2021) the can looked the same but they now come with a motorcraft sticker label & it notes "Majority content made in the USA".
Ive noticed filters labeled as motorcraft on amazon & they tend to have noted in the extra info "made in china".

Ive seen many posts amongst the web referring to filter media ripping in motorcraft (820 & 500) filters amongst other brands.
I decided to cut open the motorcraft fl820s oil filter that I had on my f150 (from back when I started getting valvetrain noise at 90k miles using motorcraft 5w20) & found the media ripped in the same location as others have noted). I had a old FL810 filter laying around & decided to cut it open, ripped in the same area. I didnt realize there was a such a issue with the motorcrafts ripping & I felt I was the last to know about it.

Oh hail the mighty motorcraft filter

But the Motorcraft gets the job done so better doesn't mean it will make a difference or worth paying double.

The last case of MC that I bought in June of 2020 was about $48.43 including tax. That is essentially $4.03 for a Ford Filter that does all they want it to for warranty purposes.

Yep, no need to over pay!
