I was interested in having the column shift in place of my console shifter for my truck, but I have not seen a single thread or video on doing it. I’ve looked. Your best bet would be finding someone wanting to do the opposite and swap parts. The big sticking point would be the wiring harness, if I understand correctly.

I thought about doing a dial, ala Ram or Navigator, but it would be more complicated than I’m willing to tolerate. Doing the Navigator dial, you wouldn’t get the extra cubby...because the dial shifter takes up all the space.

Good luck
I will be doing this very soon - next few weeks. I've got a 2018 Lariat 502A, and already have the parts sitting here for the conversion. The big change is the steering column... you have to go to the non-power-tilt/telescope column to get the mounting points for the column shift. I'll also be installing a Raptor wheel (with functional paddles) at the same time.

Nice! We pretty much have the same truck, but mine is a 2017. If you’re going to do it, help some folks out and take pics & do a write-up. There are a few of us out there that want to do it.....you are blazing a new path.

I will document it in my build thread (https://www.f150forum.com/f78/tvsjrs...-build-421075/) - it's based on what Firerunner did to his, just in reverse! You can follow that thread if you want, so you'll get an alert when I update.

First time ever heard the column shifter described as awkward.

Yeah, awkward probably isn't the right word. I just find the console shifter to be more smooth & satisfying to use. I would still be happy with either, provided the rest of the truck met my specs. Just happened to work out that my '15 had the column shift, and my '18 had the console shift, but neither was the determining factor.

Vote for the column shifter here. Have an XLT and stayed away from the sport package specifically because of this. Mainly like the extra storage space and it doesn't bother me at all to reach up to the column to shift.

I've had shifters in both locations, still find myself reaching for the console when it's on the column and vice versa. Old age is not for sissies. LOL

Ha ! I have one of each and find myself doing the same thing. I used to have a work truck with a manual transmission and after getting into another truck with an auto, I can't tell you how many times I tried to step on the clutch. Not to be confused with the imaginary brake pedal on the passenger side I am stepping on whenever my wife drives...

I ordered my lariat 501a pkg with 40/20/40 bench column shift so I can seat six. Just wish you could order a bench seat in any model truck, would have bought a platinum.

Pretty much all the XLs and XLTs are column shifter, except the sport package gets the console shifter. Obviously most of the higher trims, and raptor do as well.
