Models with Column Shift?
Anybody have a good write up on going from console to column? I’ve seen the treads going the opposite direction, but I didn’t see anyone who has freed up that console space. Recent road trips have driven me to wanting more space and/or 2 more cup holders.
I was interested in having the column shift in place of my console shifter for my truck, but I have not seen a single thread or video on doing it. I’ve looked. Your best bet would be finding someone wanting to do the opposite and swap parts. The big sticking point would be the wiring harness, if I understand correctly.
I thought about doing a dial, ala Ram or Navigator, but it would be more complicated than I’m willing to tolerate. Doing the Navigator dial, you wouldn’t get the extra cubby...because the dial shifter takes up all the space.
Good luck
Not sure about the higher trims, but the XLT also has a column shift, with or without the console option.
My '15 XLT had the column shift w/console, really liked that combination. My '18 has console shift, which I also like, but miss the lost storage. Overall, I prefer the console shift, as the shifter works a little smoother than the column shifter.

I was a bit hesitant at first, getting my '18 with the console shifter, and losing that storage bin. And while I still miss not having that bin, I've grown to actually prefer the console shifter. Not as awkward to use as the column shift, and sure looks a lot sportier! The shifter itself is a nice, beefy, solid feeling stick, satisfying to use. I just relocated a few items to the mid-level side trays in the console, all is well!
