Anybody have a good write up on going from console to column? I’ve seen the treads going the opposite direction, but I didn’t see anyone who has freed up that console space. Recent road trips have driven me to wanting more space and/or 2 more cup holders.

Up to and including the basic Lariat you can get column shift.

I was interested in having the column shift in place of my console shifter for my truck, but I have not seen a single thread or video on doing it. I’ve looked. Your best bet would be finding someone wanting to do the opposite and swap parts. The big sticking point would be the wiring harness, if I understand correctly.

I thought about doing a dial, ala Ram or Navigator, but it would be more complicated than I’m willing to tolerate. Doing the Navigator dial, you wouldn’t get the extra cubby...because the dial shifter takes up all the space.

Good luck

My '15 XLT had the column shift w/console, really liked that combination. My '18 has console shift, which I also like, but miss the lost storage. Overall, I prefer the console shift, as the shifter works a little smoother than the column shifter.
Yep, mine is a 15 XLT column shift with console. Never thought I wanted a console in a truck, and now, I never want one without it. I feel the floor shift takes up valuable space.

Totally agree on the console, probably the most useful of any vehicle I've had.

I was a bit hesitant at first, getting my '18 with the console shifter, and losing that storage bin. And while I still miss not having that bin, I've grown to actually prefer the console shifter. Not as awkward to use as the column shift, and sure looks a lot sportier! The shifter itself is a nice, beefy, solid feeling stick, satisfying to use. I just relocated a few items to the mid-level side trays in the console, all is well!

What does everyone prefer, column or console shifter? I’m good with either.

lit seems that most prefer the console shifter...I would rather have a column shifter with the console.
Ford wouldn’t let me get what I wanted, so I have the console shifter.

Previous one was console shift. 2018 is column with console. I still reach for the console gear lever.

My 2017 XLT Chrome Package has the column shift. I got the Chrome Package instead of the Sport Package because the Sport Package had the console shift and I did not want a console shift.

Loved the column shifter on my 2014 Silverado with center console. So much storage room and much cleaner look IMO. Wish I could have gotten the same on my 2016 Lariat 502a.
