Angry Map updates

So... March of last year, I bought the 5 year map update plan, and updated my maps to NA 2 21 in my 16' Lariat.

Now... It has been a year and the current maps on the update page are STILL 2.21, which were actually made available online in November of 22.

So, the question is... when the heck is Ford going to make the next set of maps available. Logic would say they would do so at least yearly, which means 2 23 should have been put online back in November of 22!

Great - - I paid for a 5 year plan for map updates, and apparently there aren't going to be any. (I should have only paid for 1 year.)

Map updates are typically done annually.

Are you sure on those dates? NA 2.21 came out in fall 2022 (September-ish I think). You're saying you got NA 2.21 in March of 2022, ~6 months before it launched on the update site?

NA 2.20 should have been the update as of March 2022 (would have come out in fall of 2021) if I'm remembering correctly, and then NA 2.21 in fall of 2022.

But yes, as posted, one update a year has been the trend, and that update generally contains map data that is already a year old when released.

I've installed 2 map updates since I bought my truck at the end of 2019 (with NA 2.19 installed), so I think the annual intent has stretched a bit. And as noted some of the info is already a year old when the update drops. I use nav mostly for road trips, not looking up local businesses, so if I subscribe at all I may put it off a year or two to get the most value for the price. I'm not likely to miss skipping a nav update or two any more than I used to miss not buying a new paper atlas every year.

The Travel Link traffic function is more important to me than the latest map update.

Map updates come out September/October for the previous year, almost like maps are in arrears 1 year.

So my map update for Oct. 2022 was maps 2021 (NA 2 21)

Why by map updates when you can download them to a thumb drive and upload them for free?

They aren't always free. Depending on the MY, you may get one update (maybe two). My 2018 got NA 2.20 free, but 2.21 required payment.

Haha, that's what I was thinking. Nav is one feature I never use.

Free...much better than the Ford Nav maps...and I don't need to schedule 4 hrs to update my system!!!

Internal Vehicle Nav systems are soon to be a thing of the past.
Its just too easy and convenient to use google maps and such.

I thought that about 10 years ago, but it didn't happen. A lot of people, including myself, prefer the larger screen in the dash (that's already there anyway) and not having my phone tied up with multiple apps. I tend to use the phone for short trips and looking up businesses, and the dash nav for longer trips during which I may be using the phone to make calls and use other apps.
