Wireless Android Auto/Carplay units available that will work with these trucks.

LOL, I added it when I ordered my truck thinking one day I will be in never land and the satellite signal might be better than my cellular signal for Google maps. Not the case, ever. I have tried it a few times, hate it over Google maps. I do like my free for 5 yr traffic display for everyday driving without directions assistance, I doubt I pay $10 / mo for it later.

I do also use the larger screen with google maps and Waze through CarPlay.
A person can also plot their travels at home on their phones then... get into truck just plug phone in and hit "Go" and the map & directions pop up on screen.

I also find the live updates and data associated with these apps is far superior to factory Nav...and I don't have to pay Sirius for their traffic information.

Just my 2 cents

This too. If you live east of I-35, you probably don't know that holes in cellular coverage exist. If you live west of I-35, you know there are some large ones and you know where they are. Of course, if you remember to, you can download maps on Google Maps ahead of time and the GPS will still work (traffic won't, but probably not necessary in "dark country").

Sometimes I get poor cellular south of Chattanooga, I get poor satellite as well. Am I correct in thinking after the 5 years, the traffic etc will not work unless paid for, but the Maps still will work?

The maps/nav portion will work as long as the truck can get a satellite signal. It doesn't require any additional services to run.
You just have to pay for future updates, but those are not required.

agreed it’s much better…however not that good once you get out of cell range. Here in British Columbia you lose cell coverage once you leave major towns/cities. The nav has been quite useful at those times. Even downloading offline maps has been quite hit or miss for me. YMMV.

This. I plug my phone in fire up Apple CarPlay and Waze and we're rolling. The navigation system is like the CD player in my truck, it's there but never used.

You're probably right about that. I'm in the northeast and only on the rarest of occasions when in in the mountains will I lose service for a small period.

Yep, I made the mistake of using the ford nav on a trip to CO and it took me down the "shortest" long road... If we can gone up the road 10ish miles, it would saved 45 minutes. Down a zig-zag road w/ a posted speed of 20mpg literally took us almost 90 minutes. Ford maps sux...
