In the mail today I received a notice from Ford that their is a new map update for Sync 3 owners. The one thing I noticed is their is a cost to the owner. Has anyone bought the update and if so is it worth it?

 

Did I buy it - yes. Is it worth it - that depends. For about the same money you can buy a Garmin with lifetime free updates four or more times a year. Many people use Waze or Google Maps. It really boils down to what you want to do.

 

Bought it. Nothing remarkable.

 

Which Sync version and what is the date stamp on the maps?

 

You never mentioned what maps you have now. The ones on the update are 18-1

 

NA 1 18 to be precise.

 

I don't see the value if you're using Apple Car Play or Android Auto where Google Maps and Waze is free and updated.

 

I wouldn't pay for any such update. I just got mine, which was nice because my street didn't appear before, even though it's been almost a decade my subdivision was built. But they're years and years behind. I like to use the car's navigation, but since we have CarPlay, I could use it if needed, like if an address is not in the car's nav. But only my house was an issue before. Guess the next revision will be in 2020, and not sure if I'll get another free upgrade or not. My truck should have come with 1.18 maps, but came with 1.16. Guess I burned my upgrade, if it was only 1.
