Map update issue
So, I did the free update on my truck and after it was completed, I read on the forum that some people had issues with the voice commands not working, so I went and checked and my voice command when in navigation, no longer worked. After 3 more attempts to load with he same result, I called Ford. Talked to one women and one guy in India for over 3 hours with zero success and multiple "system" reloads. They then gave me a case number and told me to take it to the dealer, dealer had it all day and can't fix it, so now, they need a Ford corporate person to tell them what to do.
Of course, Fords response is "we have never seen this before". I called bull ****, because it is on the forums.
FYI, did my Mustang, same process and everything works fine, same with my wife's Escape.

I was in that same boat. Today, I re-applied the update. When the SYNC screen told me it was complete, and to restart the truck, I left the USB drive plugged in. Shut the truck off. Hopped out and went about my day. 45min later, got in the truck and started it back up. Then unplugged the USB drive, and my voice commands work in Navigation now. However, my Software License screen still shows I have NA 1.17 instead of 1.18- but whatever.
In another thread, it seemed like those who took the USB drive out after the first time the head unit said you could take it out lost their voice commands.
For me, it applied the changes, said I could take out the USB but I did not, it rebooted, it applied changes again, again said OK to take out USB but I did not, it rebooted a second time, it applied a change to Sync, and then said update successful but did not reboot. Only then did I take the USB out. In addition, there was a little down arrow (maybe it was an up arrow) in the upper right hand corner at that time that, when I touched it, it detailed changes to Sync. After all that, I did have voice commands.
Don't know if you tried to re-apply it and went through the two reboots and then the third application if it would work.

Dealer called and said that my issue was that I did not pay for the update and it is waiting for payment. Pretty funny because you can't load it without the authorization number that is linked to the payment, so I sent them my $0.00 email invoice.
Pretty funny ha!

Had a similar issue in my 2018. Spent a few days back and forth via email with Sync tech support, then eventually got a call from Ford, and they've decided to just replace my APIM. Problem is, they're backordered a few weeks, so once my dealer gets one in stock, I'll be taking the truck in to have the thing swapped out.

I'm sure someone will have a more detailed answer than me, but my understanding is that it's basically the brains of the whole sync system, and mounts behind the Sync display screen in the dash. I went back and forth with someone at Ford trying some different things to debug the problem with my upgrade, and eventually I guess they just gave up with trying the software fixes, and decided to throw new hardware at the problem.
