The APIM is the Accessory Protocol Interface Module. It interacts with other modules, provides Bluetooth connectivity, recognizes voice commands, and stores Sync software and navigation maps. It is mounted behind the display screen known as the ACM (Audio Control Module).

For me, it applied the changes, said I could take out the USB but I did not, it rebooted, it applied changes again, again said OK to take out USB but I did not, it rebooted a second time, it applied a change to Sync, and then said update successful but did not reboot. Only then did I take the USB out. In addition, there was a little down arrow (maybe it was an up arrow) in the upper right hand corner at that time that, when I touched it, it detailed changes to Sync. After all that, I did have voice commands.

Don't know if you tried to re-apply it and went through the two reboots and then the third application if it would work.
I did same exact thing and I have no voice navigation now

Truck has now been there 3 days and they don't know what the issue is. I went to the dealer unannounced because "I needed something out of it" and they were working on it.

Updating maps that are only a few years old is a waste of time.

Don't agree. A major road was added 2 years ago and it is not on my 5 month old truck.

And it probably won't be on it when they fix it if that ever happens.

It is there. The voice commands don't work.

So the lady in India, just gave me a new case number because they have "escalated" my issue. Just can't make this stuff up!

Just FYI, prior to updating my Maps, I would go to the Ford Owner website and I had no downloads available, aka SYNC updates. After downloading and installing the new Map software, from NA 1 16 to NA 1 18, I returned to the FO website and lo and behold I had a new SYNC update. I ran the update last night, but I don't think it took, as I still have 18093, which I'm pretty sure was the same one I had before. I'll try it again tonight, as I have a long drive planned.

Update: Went out to the truck tonight and started it up to retry the update and it immediately said that the software was updated and showed the up/down arrows in the corners. Checked the software version and it was updated to the latest version. I think I just had to let the truck complete a full ignition and shut down cycle.

The instructions said that you had to have Sync 3 before installing and my truck did, but my Mustang did not, so I had to update it first. Mustang works fine.
