longer bed is hard to park, slower and handles worse. ive had the 5.5 and 6.5 bed. neved used the longer bed like I thought I would since u really need an 8' bed for a lot of things. if you haul stuff a lot- sure. otherwise short bed is better for most.

Went from a regular cab 6.5 to a crew cab 5.5. The increased dry, lockable storage more than makes up for the shorter bed in my case.

No offence but I don't know why you need to ask people if you can work with the smaller bed or not. Only you would know this. For me it's just the wife and I with a Screw shortbox and it's more than enough for trips, camping, and the occasional large purchase or small haul of bricks or firewood.

On the other hand, if you're working with concrete and brick, maybe the 5.5' bed is fine.

I went from a 5.5 to a 6.5, always felt like the 5.5 was lacking just a bit of space/length (especially with lumber)....but that was only a couple times a year, so I could always make it work.

Now I haul my own water (live out of town on 5 acres) and need 6+ for it to fit. So now I 'need' the 6.5 box. If it wasn't for that I could easily get away with a 5.5'....I also have easy access to my neighbors trailers (father in law) lol

Very individual question based on specific uses

Im finally joining the club and getting a new f150. Im going after a new leftover 2017 for the costs but my problem is there arent too many long box options. I found a brand new platinum short box for 56,500 Canadian or a brand new lariat sport 502A long box for the same price. Both are super crews with the pano roof. My problem is im coming from a 6.5ft bed truck now and although i dont use the truck for work i do have it filled every now and then when we go on trips and other activites. Im sure there are guys who went from the 6.5ft to the 5.5ft so im hoping some of you can chime in with and feedback about that choice. Thanks in advance
Keep in mind with the 2017's that have the rear inflatable seat belts, there is a recall on them, and if they don't pass (most don't) they can not sell it to you anyway.

I bought the short bed just so it would fit it in my 20' long garage. The long bed would not.

It was a struggle for me to find a 6.5 bed configured as I like it.

Took a while to find it, and had to drive out of state to get it.

I'm guessing one of twenty F150's in screw is a 6.5.

Only in Ontario Canada ???....Up here a my XLT crew 6.5' box curb weight is 3009 kilo's (times 2.2 = lbs for you Americans)...Here in Ontario the least we can license a trk. for is 3000 kg. meaning you have to go to the next licensing bracket @ 3500kg ...& +$90. more ....so I figure Ford is smart in order to sell more trks to people who didn't really need a trk. so they designed the 5.5 box....I personally believe that was also a big consideration on their part of switching to aluminum doors/fenders etc....Black Buzzard you are right on up here also only 1 or 2 in 10 are 6.5 boxes (new or used) just my thoughts....

That's a crazy good price for a brand new Platinum. I bought mine 5 months ago for quite a bit more. (Granted this was before the '18's were readily available).
