We had a rain Friday and where the two sunroofs meet I could see a steam coming in. I checked for water on headliner and carpets and there was none. I took some good videos of it leaking and went straight to the dealer. They said it was somewhat normal but mine was a little excessive. They also informed me that there are 4 drains. 2 in front and 2 in back. I will have to schedule an appointment for them to see about adjusting it.

A sunroof is not designed to be water tight up top...that's why there are drain tubes, to take the water out of the truck. There are tubes that will run through the A pillars and drain through the firewall, that's usually the culprit with a sunroof leak. It can be a kinked or clogged hose that causes a backup just like your plumbing at home, or a drain tube that has come out of the rubber grommet where it passes through the firewall.

Your dealer may be having a hard time because most of them farm out water leaks to other companies when it isn't an obvious problem, so they just don't have the experience with those repairs. Ask them to get a company that specializes in sunroof repair involved...

You don't park on a steep incline, do you?

OP, monitor and document this water leak very closely.

I'm on the Ford Edge forum looking to buy one for the wife.

They had a bad run of 2015's (thousands), and it caused water leaks as you described. Ford has a program for buying back many of those vehicles, program 15B21.

Why you should be very concerned is that on the Edge, there are wiring harnesses under the carpet, and the water caused all sorts of electrical and electronic glitches after soaking the harness, plus mold and smell problems.

Check this link to see what you could be up against. I hope that your problem is not as severe.

I appreciate all the feedback on this and I wanted to provide an update. Once this looked like it would not be a quick fix I generated a case # with Ford service. Last Wednesday afternoon the dealer who has the truck told Ford service they could not replicate the leak. I was working with Ford service and was planning to take to another dealer for a second opinion. I spoke to the dealer last Wednesday evening and he said they have been over the truck front to back and cannot find the leak. They were going to replace the carpet and I could have the truck back Friday. I got a call from the service manager Thursday morning. It had rained the night before and the truck was parked outside. There was now more water in the cab then the previous day. He said there was an obvious major issue going on he and could not give me the truck back in good faith in this condition. He then asked me if they could get the numbers right would I be interested in replacing the truck with a new one due to this issue and the other things happening with the truck. After numerous discussions with the sales manager this is where I am headed. The only thing I am really losing is the seven months of payments I have made as I am starting over at 60 months. But I am getting a better piece of mind because I would never fully trust the current truck. I also spent a year looking at options and waiting for the 2015 and have 8 months of experience with these trucks. I made a few changes on the options for the new truck. Deal should be complete in the next two days. Will keep you posted.

I pulled back the carpet and there was standing water. You cannot see water leaking in anywhere. I took this to the dealer the following Monday. It has been at the dealer for almost a week and a half and they have not been able to identify the leak. Have any others experienced anything else similar to this? They have used a garden hose to spray the truck but claim to still not identify how it is leaking. I am wondering what other options I have at this point. If after two weeks they are still unable to find I guess I will try another dealer. Spent $60K on this truck and after this issue and others buyer's remorse may be setting in. Will never buy a first run model year again. Very disappointed.

Default Water Leak

I just posted yesterday about the exact same issue. I suspect Ford is well aware of this defect in the 2015,2016 and 2017 next generation trucks have had issues with water leaks into the passenger cab and driver cab area. The intent of my post is to see just how many owners are having water issues. I believe that if there is enough people who experienced this issue a class action consumer lawsuit should be explored against Ford.... Ford refuses to acknowledge the long term issues that can result from wiring harnesses and connectors being exposed to environmental factors as a result of this defect in their workmanship and quality control. Fixing a leak is one thing however, the damages that have yet surfaced because the leak is the unknown factor and will Ford stand behind their product. My conversation with their customer care representative was pretty much NO... and that isn't the proper answer in my book....

Default Water Leak

I have a 2016 SCab XL Sport 4x4.
I was installing the outer seat bracket covers that I purchased a while back. Finally had a day to get them done. I removed the passenger side xact contour floormat and discovered the carpet was saturated with water. Its been there long enough that the floormat has mold on the underside. It has not rained here in a few weeks, but there have been some heavy dew a few mornings. I have looked for signs of leaks and found nothing. Calling the dealership this morning.

Finally was able to drop the truck off Wednesday. The dealer called yesterday and informed me that the truck has seam separation issues. They are still looking in to it.

If there are 2017 owners with the twin panel moonroof with leaks, shouldn’t the 2018 models have them to? I mean I doubt they redesigned the moonfoof in the 2018 models.

OP.....do you have the pano sunroof (assuming you do with a Platinum)

Your symptoms are exactly the same as my 2016 Lariat. Mine has been at dealership twice for same issue..... Noticed front passenger floor carpet was wet. Could hear water sloshing about while driving.

I pulled front passenger kick panel and sill plate off and found lots of standing water. In fact the entire harness under that sill plate was submerged! Brought the truck to the dealership under warranty (twice now) and both times it was "clogged/kinked sunroof drains" as the stated root cause.

I'm personally convinced that all of the 15-17 trucks with the pano roof will eventually have this problem. The pano roof seals let too much water pass by and with that water comes debris which will eventually clog the drain lines. There's nothing they can really do otherwise, it's clearly a design flaw on these. I am completely frustrated with mine as I'm just waiting for it to happen again (especially since it's now fall in here in the Northeast with leaves/pine needles falling everywhere).

BTW - my dealership has been great about trying to make this right. They even replaced the BCM on the second event because it looked as though it had gotten wet - It's behind the passenger kick panel. They also gave me a loaner while truck was in the shop for this.

IMO - All 15-17 F150 owners with the pano sunroof needs to be on watch for this issue. It's not a question of IF your truck is affected but WHEN.
