My simplistic math was as follows to determine my target price on the 2017 Lariat w/Sport Package.

Total MSRP: $56,575
D & D: $1,295
Total: $55,280

Desired Discount: 15%
Discount Amount: $8,292

Target Price ($55,280 - $8,292): $46,988 +$1,295 (Dock & Delivery) = $48,283

Hopefully that math is remotely correct (@toptobottom?).

I started by offering $46k. When I left the dealer was was $48,460, which is pretty much at the number I came to above based on 15%.

Thought I'd check here for a couple reasons:

1. Is my math correct?
2. Would it be foolish to buy now or is this the time of the year when bigger rebates hit the market given that 2018's are around the corner and/or do dealers start discounting current year models even more?

Thanks for any feedback!
Not good with math but this is a great time of year to buy. Waiting till September maybe be a little better but not by much. Just so happens my high school friend sales cars and says August and September. I wanted him to explain and he said that the sales managers are motivated to make better deals because the new models are coming out and they are under the gun to clear out the current inventory. Grab something by October at the latest because if you wait till November or December it maybe slim pickings. If you do wait till November go on black Friday when most are out shopping for gifts and not vehicles. Hope this helps.

Your math is correct! BUT, I am very skeptical that the Dealer is giving you a 15% Dealer discount (BEFORE Incentives, Doc fee, TTL and possibly Destination Charge).

You haven't provided a quote sheet from the Dealer so I hope you got one! If that's a true Dealer quote for a 15% Dealer discount including Dest. & Doc Fee and before incentives, then you better run or fly there immediately and lock that truck in. I would really like to see this quote on paper. If you got a verbal - well, you may be in for a surprise.

Let's say this Dealer meant his price DID NOT include Dest. charge and a high Doc Fee of around $699 then that would change your number drastically like this;

$1,295+$699 = $1,994 / $55,280 = .036 or 3.6%

15% - 3.6% = 11.4%

If the Dealer included your rebate then you've been had!

Let us know how this turns out - I'm very interested to see where this goes because it has the smell of "If it sounds too good to be true - it probably is."

I thought about this after posting and figured you'd say this. This did include a $2,500 rebate. Part of me, based on how I've seen trucks priced/negotiated around here didn't really care that the rebate may have been included, but I totally understand how that screws up the math.

Based on the original deal sheet they showed me with their original offer, the numbers were this.

Selling price: $58,075
Dealer Discount: $6,500
Rebate: $2,500
Adjusted Price: $49,075
Sprayin Liner: $399

Total Purchase Price: $49,474

Beyond that they have a pretty high doc fee of $799 and the taxes kick in another $1,720.

But again, the numbers highlighted above were from their original offer and they ended up at $48,460 (this included destination & delivery and did NOT include out the door fees). I haven't done the math but I think it's about 10 or 11% off without factoring in that $2,500 rebate.

Note: I do not have a trade so I am not able to go after the current trade in rebate.

Ahhh, so now the full odor of the cow manure penetrates the morning air (I live rural). I had a feeling there was no 15% deal. This kind of math makes it very deceiving for others thinking they may get this kind of deal when truly it's unrealistic.

This is why I stress that everyone posts actual quotes for a verifiable apples to apples comparison of Dealer discounts/Selling Price.

The Dealer you're dealing with is one of those true Master Manipulator's that use the FALSE MSRP to make their discount appear larger. When you factor out that absurd Doc Fee (my calculation removed the entire fee because they're making extra on you with that Spray Liner already) your deal is a paltry 7.6%.

RUN AWAY FROM THIS DEAL!

In the beginning stages of negotiating at the moment. I am trying to do everything through email so I have a paper trail as well as no sales pressure lol

zip code is 35233

I couldn't find the window sticker for this truck on their website so here is the link....

Here's the Window Sticker you should save on your computer because it has the build date on it. The one on the truck doesn't.

Unless you have a special incentive like Military, First Responder or College grad or Grad student they made a mistake on the Rebate Incentives for your Zip Code. This Truck is an XL Trim, so you're only supposed to get $3,800 for your total incentives WITHOUT Ford Credit Bonus Customer Cash. If you look at your offer they have $4,300 ($500 extra).

If they made a mistake on the rebates, I think they applied the ones for the XLT Trim, then you don't say a thing to them - just go straight to the Showroom unannounced. Print this quote and do a neat strikeout on angle through their OTD so it can still be read. Then below it right Counteroffer and write in $39,000 and sign the bottom. Tell them we have a deal if you come down $80 to my counteroffer. It will still need signature approval from the Sales Manager at the bottom, but hopefully your asking for $80 less than their OTD number draws attention away from the Rebate mistake. Without knowing what the Doc/Processing Fee is mixed in with Title & Lic Fees, then you'll walk away with an 11.7% deal the way it stands right now. If they catch the error and want to change it back to what it should be - tell them the deal is off because you got a nice backup deal at another Dealership and walk out. Come back here to let us know what happens and we'll wait to see if they call you to come back in.

How hilarious! They actually got your OTD for more than the Total MSRP.

These are the kind of deals you're going to keep getting by shopping at NJ Dealers.

I finally pulled the trigger on a new truck and got her delivered this past Friday. Big thanks to Top and others who have been a big help to all of us. I don't think I did too bad on the deal, especially considering this was purchased from another dealer in MD so my dealership here in VA got no holdback. See below for the details:

Vehicle price - $47,895
Destination - $1,295
Processing Fee - $599
Tax - $1,931.37
Filing fee, business license tax, tags/title(all BS) - $133.27
Total - $51,853.64
Minus rebates of $3,250 took me to $48,603.64 OTD

I went ahead and jumped on it, as there were only three trucks within 150 miles of me that were exactly what I wanted, and I already missed out on two. This was literally the only truck with the exact color I wanted and all the options I wanted, and none of what I didn't want.
