Default Just a Basic Truck

My nephew is buying his first new vehicle coming out of a very basic 1996 F150 4x2 300 I-6.
Basically Air and Auto and not much else in the way of options.

We were going over what he really needed (His father is deceased and I have tried to fill the role as much as anyone is able) and what he would like and what his budget is.
His budget was $20,000. I was a bit worried, I shouldn't have been.
This is what he picks up after work today.

Regular Cab Short Bed XL 4x2 $27705
2.7 EB $995 (Before $300 EB Rebate)
101A $1305 (After Package Discount)
Chrome Package $275 (After Package Discount)
53B Hitch Package $95
Carpet and Floor mats $145
Destination $1495
$32015

This is the deal we were able to reach.

-$3662 Dealer Discount
-$300 2.7 EB Rebate
-$2500 (Minimum Rebate)
-$750 ( Reg Cab XL Rebate)
-$1000 (4x2 Rebate)
-$500 VIN Specific Rebate
-$250 Dealer Certificate
-$1000 Ford Finance Rebate
-$3000 PCO

Total Discounts $12,962 (Not Including Package Discounts)

$19,053 Sale Price
$714.49 Tax (3.75%)
$16.50 Title
No Doc Fee
$19,783.99

Truck will be refinanced during the Black Friday Credit Union Special for 1.99% for 60 Months.

Makes me wonder why I spent nearly $40,000 on my new truck. Do I really need all the fluff?

The fluff? No, absolutely not, unless of course you absolutely need those heated seats! The 4x4, well maybe

That's a great deal, I'd be happy as can be having a truck like that when I was younger. I love reg cabs, unfortunately car seats don't.

For me, I spend more time in my truck then in my home. So I enjoy being comfy and pampered in my truck.

I have had trucks/suv/cars with a lot less (1986 toyota corolla with NO options, stick, manual windows / locks no radio)

I did practically the same thing when I bought my '16 RCSB. Really the XL with the 101A is a real nice rig. Especially coming from the older trucks.

I commend you on doing a great job on the purchase.

Yes, great truck choice, and well-bought. A nice safe vehicle for a young driver (for the price of a Jetta S!).

Ha, that's about 5K more than I paid for my XLT/Lariat in 1990. By the way, where is tax 3.75%? Awesome.
