Default how often to replace oil plug

Please don't flame me as i was in a moment of desperation but i took my truck to a Mr lube for an oil change and the guy was saying i had to replace the oil drain plug which was news to me. The whole time there he was trying to upsell me on everything so i was pretty annoyed when he asked me about the plug. I googled real quick and sure enough these plugs do need replacing, ive always had the oil done at Ford and theyve never once asked me to replace this plug. What are you guys doing? The tech(if you can call him that) said its supposed to be done every time, the worst part was hearing the guy underneath my truck yelling back "does he know the oil plug will leak if he doesnt replace it"

I got the same response from a cheap oil change place. They told me i'd likely need to change the plug in the future for some reason.

I only did it because i needed fresh oil in a pinch for a long road trip. I had it dealer changed 1500 miles after that.

Your first problem was believing that the Mr. Lube place was interested in anything besides upcharging you for the replacement plug (and likely at several bucks more than an OEM plug too). It is practically SOP for those types of places.

The plug in my truck has been used for reused for 9 oil changes now, including several at he Ford Quick lane. No leaks...

When the quick lane doesn't even upsell you one these, what does that say?

My '18 has 10,000 miles and I've changed the oil at least 3 times. The original plug is fine. No leaks. I do, however have a spare just in case.

I put 38,000 miles with changes every 5,000 miles and did not change it. I have two extras as I was worried about it,,,,,at first.

There is no reason to replace the oil drain plug with a new one, unless you damaged the old one. They don't turn into a pumpkin at midnight.

45,000 miles on my 2015 and so far, 31k and change on my 2018. 1 drain plug each. No leaks. I'm not saying I WON'T replace it, just that I haven't had a need to yet in over 70,000 combined miles.
