Default How common is this problem . . .

Sorry for the vague title but if I describe the issue in the subject line improperly, folks who might want to respond may miss this post.

My 2015 F150 XLT S-Cab 4x4 started making a funny sound at about 800 miles. Combine a sound like the fan motor on low, with a slight click to it and you get pretty close. Maybe add a slight frequency oscillation and that is the best I can describe it.

The issue was supposedly traced to a faulty transfer case which was replaced at about 1,500 miles once a new one could be delivered. At about 2,500 miles the sound returned and I am waiting to take it back to the dealer again.

My local shop fixed another 2015 5.0 4x4 two weeks prior to mine and when I brought my truck in for a different issue recently I was asked if the noise had returned. I thought it kind of odd the tech would ask me this which now has me thinking the other truck they changed out the transfer case on two weeks prior to mine has also had the noise return.

My truck is showroom stock.

So have any/many people had this issue? If so which engine and drive train (4x4 or 4x2) do you have?

Edit: I know 2WD's don't have a transfer case but since that didn't solve the issue, maybe it is unrelated and 2WD trucks might have this issue as well.

Also, my truck was ordered the last week of February and delivered to me the first week of May if this helps to narrow down a build time frame.

I haven't experienced this but I just wanted to point out that a transfer case doesn't apply to 2WD trucks...

Did you get a lift or level (if so check the IWE)

when they diagnosed mine as being a faulty transfer case, the new transfer case was on back order which leads me to believe it was happening to a bunch of them. When they put the new one in and it didn't fix the problem it really has me wondering what is going on

Understood regarding transfer case and 2WD. But since that didn't fix the issue, maybe it isn't transfer case related and can affect 2WD trucks. I should have been more clear.

Exactly my situation.

I ordered the last week in February and took delivery the first weekend in May. How about you?

Sounds like although the truck is making a funny noise it doesn't throw a CEL? Do you notice any performance issues or your mpg going down etc...? My 2015 has 1200 miles on it and I can say I've heard at idle a sound similar to what your describing but haven't worried about it since everything seems to be running fine. I have a Xlt Screw 4x4 with the 2.7l. Keep us posted, hopefully all works out!

Nothing performance yet, just the noise which is really prevalent from about 30-60mph. Above 60 and road/wind noise starts to muffle it.

I've noticed the same noise on my Lariat 4x4 with the 2.7 ecoboost. Sounds like an exhaust leak, just haven't gone underneath it yet to try and pinpoint it.
