Headlights off timer
Hi guys, I just cant seem to notice the headlight's door chime and my neighbor has come a few times to tell me my lights are still on. Is there something I'm missing besides the obvious, is there a way to have a 2 minute timer or something? How long would the headlight/running lights stay on, long enough to kill the battery?
Not knowing what "trim" you have makes it hard to give an appropriate answer.
Have you set the time out for the lights in your settings? Do you leave the Lights on "Auto" setting?

I have an 2018 xlt with 302a. I dont use Auto as the lights are constantly on and off which of course makes the stereo go super bright to dark a lot. Part of the problem is "Dark mode" on the stereo only goes so dim when driving at night and is so bright when its dawn/dusk. So I have electrical tape over the phototcell on the dash and have the running lights switched to on to keep the stereo dim and also so I can read the hvac dials when its dusk or dawn. Almost all the vehicles I've had, if the headlights or running lights or even the interior/exterior lights are left on, a few minutes later they shut off automatically.
If you are leaving your lights set to the parking lights(one click clockwise from off) then your lights will stay on for approx. 15 minutes until the truck auto shuts them down to save you from a dead battery. The only setting to set how long the lights stay on, is for when the switch is set to the auto position. You have to shut your lights off each time you exit the vehicle otherwise they will stay on for 15 minutes. Hope this helps.
Thanks guys, but they stay on for hours. I dont see anything on the Forscan spreadsheet either to program this. I just went to Home depot and did it again. Roughly 45mins. The obvious answer is to turn the switch off, but why dont they just shut off automatically!

Yes I know. As I said, part of the problem is that the HVAC controls are not illuminated when I want them on. Heck, turn the lights switch to ON and they still wont illuminate. Anyways, thanks guys. Guess I'll just have to pay more attention.
If you turn the lights on manually you have to turn them off manually. Simple as that. If you turn the lights on manually and it's still daylight the exterior lights will come on but the instrument panel lights will remain off.
I think everybody should leave it in auto. I am constantly seeing ford vehicles on the road at night in the dark with no taillights because the lights are left off and they are just running on the daytime running lights. This is one thing that gm did right. On the chevy truck I had before, the switch would spring back to auto if you turned the lights off manually. I never had to worry about it.
