Headlights off timer
I think everybody should leave it in auto. I am constantly seeing ford vehicles on the road at night in the dark with no taillights because the lights are left off and they are just running on the daytime running lights. This is one thing that gm did right. On the chevy truck I had before, the switch would spring back to auto if you turned the lights off manually. I never had to worry about it.
Auto is one thing and a whole other topic to which most drivers of all vehicles need to pay attention to. The fact that DRLs that turn only headlights and dash and not the tails when it is dark is also something of a major problem. It is not the fix I am looking for. When a vehicle is equipped with Auto there is also a photocell, why then does my stereo come on at full brightness at 430 in the morning when I head to work? Its dark! Yet if I want to see ALL of my instrument cluster inc the HVAC, it then decides to have a brain and wont let me even manually turn them all on with the switch.
The screen has a setting to adjust the brightness; Auto, Day, Night and Off. Make sure yours is not set to Day.
The dash has LED illumination to display the gauges, no more white numbers on a black background that's back lit when the lights are turned on. The numbers and letters you see are basically blanks that light up when the truck is started and go dark when off. That's why the dash lights are always on.
In your truck the Auto setting will also turn the lights on when you turn on the wipers. It's best to leave it in the Auto mode, Ford has programmed it pretty good IMO.
Many years ago I had a Chevy Impala rental car that displayed "Headlamps Suggested" when it got dark and the switch was in the off position. Everybody should do this.

I’m with you man lol. I wish my parking lights would auto shut off if left in that mode after turning the truck off.
I agree with most of your comment. Yes, there are a ton of vehicles driving without tails at night. I really dislike that DRLs turn the dash lights on automatically making most think that the tails are lit also. Heck just the other day I was behind a 2018 F150 that had her DRLs on at night and I was turning my lights on and off trying to alert her from behind. She just flashed her high beams as if to say 'What?'.

if you are running your DRL’s your twilights will light up when braking.
I have a 2018 5L XLT and can tell you if you leave the parking lights on, the alarm will sound when you open the door with the engine off and key out of the ignition. You have to pay attention or enjoy a dead battery the next day. There is still some responsibility needed for all this.
The parking lights are not on a timer and will run the battery down because the fronts and the rears have two bulbs each, that's 8 bulbs total. That takes a lot of current to light that many for 8 hours' time. Granted, there may be a big screen warning to tell this but no one is present to see it if left in that condition.
They will stay on because it is normal practice that if you have to leave the vehicle in a location that needs to be seen by others, for safety, until the battery goes dead, or you return.
Only time these lights will time off is key out of ignition, light switches off and doors closed along with the interior lights normally dim out..
4 ways, there is no timer, for obvious reasons.

2015 ford f 150 xlt - How can I make the headlights stay on while driving during the day and automatically turn off when I park it?
