Headlights
Hello
I've been researching alot and think I have the truck I want narrowed down. 2016 SC Lariat Sport in lithium with 5.0, 501A, Tow and Sony. Build price online is 52,005. My question. ..right now I have a 14 FX4 which is pretty well loaded...minus nav. I love the HD headlights on my 14. Anyone know if there are upgraded headlights on various models? Maybe they are all good now? I just don't see options for them. Hoping I don't need the 502A package as I don't want to pay for nav. Thank you

I've got a Lariat 501A package truck with the halogen headlights. To some extent I think the bad reputation the halogen headlights enjoy come from the fact that Ford doesn't seem to have them aimed properly on some of the trucks from the factory. I always thought they were aimed too far down the road to be useful. I suspect Ford uses the same aiming specifications whether the truck is a 4WD, 2WD, or regardless of tire and wheel sizes. That would at least explain the issue. When the headlights are properly aimed, they are serviceable but just barely. They are not terribly bright and frankly are sub-par especially considering the price of these trucks.
The 501A trucks should have navigation, or at least the option for it. Even if it's standard on 502A, you are doing more than just paying for navigation and headlights. Granted much of what's offered in the 502A package is dropped with the sport appearance package, as a lot of what that package offers is chrome. Still, there is definitely more to it than just navigation. I believe the Sony Radio is part of the 502A package as well so the upcharge you would pay for it on a 501A truck wouldn't be necessary. With 502A you also get the heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, and a few more things I've probably forgotten.
Special Edition trucks get darker headlight housings on XLT and Lariat trims regardless of whether you get a 501A or 502A truck. Keep in mind that retrofitting LED headlights on a halogen truck after you buy it is going to be expensive. This easily reaches a price point of around $2,000. Halogen housings are not designed to properly focus LED light output and extra wiring is necessary. Not to mention the installation is a bit of a pain.

The halogen headlights suck on our trucks so if you can get the factory LED lights go for them - if not you have options to upgrade later
Raptor retrofit puts out an OEM LED headlight kit
And you can always just replace the halogen bulbs with LED bulbs as well - the XHP LED Conversion kits are popular with f150 owners right now
So those are your two options if you don't get them from the factory
502a package does it give you led headlights btw - at least on xlt models and below

The 502A package gives you LED headlights. As I understand it, LED headlights are not available on XLT or XL trims. Also, the packages for those would be 30xA or 10xA respectively. The King Ranch is 60xA and Platinum's are 70xA. Limited's only have a 900A package.

Yes, LED headlamps are standard with the 502A equipment group which applies to the Lariat only. The 600A package for King Ranch and 700A package for the Platinum comes with LED headlamps standard.
Thanks everyone. I will price out with 502A and see what the difference is. I know my current FX4 has best headlights I've ever had and it will be hard to go back to standard halogen. Although some aftermarket bulbs are pretty good too and cheaper than 502A.
