Well, in that case, you might need to do some work on your phone. "Download pending" usually means a memory or cache issue with your phone. Have you tried restarting it? If you have and the "download pending" still won't go away, check out this article:

What I like about google maps thru Andriod Auto is you can go to the settings while maps is screen you have the ability to switch to satellite view or regular map view..... I keep it on satellite view while driving.

Wait, does apple car play now enable google maps as a map option? Last time I tried apple car play it was the standard apple map which is awful. I disabled it. If I can use google maps, this might be a game changer...

Nope. If your iphone plugged in, when you get back to the Sync 3 menu, factory nav gets replaced by Apple Maps. Only way to use Google Maps and Waze is via CarPlay screen.

 

Yes, as of last fall you can now use Google maps on CarPlay. It definitely is nice. Use it every day on the commute to work.

 

Good deal! Android Auto really does make things nicer when navigating!

 

For those who use Google maps - give Waze a try. The crowd sourcing data (cars on side of road, police locations, items in the road way...) is something once you try you will never go back.
