Just joined the 21st century with a smart phone. I've got Google maps on it, is there a way to use it on my Sync 3? I thought I had Nav when I got the truck, but apparently I don't. Not that I'd use nav, just wondering.

 

Yes... Activate your Android Auto... Then you get to choose Google Maps from your phone, or Waze if you have it installed.

 

Depending on what operating system you have on your phone.You will need to download Android Auto or Apple CarPlay app. I was the same way when I realized my truck didn't have Nav. Don't miss it at all. Works great on Sync 3 from phone.

 

Thanks guys. I've got Android. For both Android auto, and Waze, I keep getting download pending. Did I screw up?

 

Not sure I can help much on Android. I have a IPhone. Download pending on Sync or phone?

 

The other thing with Android Auto is you have to plug the phone in via the USB port, you can’t Bluetooth AA.

When you have it plugged in though, Google Assistant is what you get when you hit the voice command button on your steering wheel. Big improvement over Sync IMO. Works for navigation, music, sending/receiving texts, etc.

 

Which kinda sucks, and is why I've not used it since the day I set it up.

 

Meh, I don’t mind. Makes sure to keep my charge topped while using my music streaming, maps, or whatever.

 

Which is a no brainer anyway as you want to be staying charged while using the battery sucking GPS on your phone anyway. First thing I do when I get in my truck - gives it that extra few seconds to get the oil moving anyway before I impatiently take off.

* Edit - I’ll qualify that - my drive to work every day is 1.5 hours which is why I don’t mind it. For short trips around town - yeah I don’t often plug it in. So I get why some may not use it.
