Default Front shocks/struts cost to replace and is an alignment needed?

I can easily swap out the rear shocks myself, but I plan to have a shop do the fronts since I am in an apt. I was going to go with Bilsteins 4600s unless someone had another suggestion (not leveling or anything).

- For the front, do they need to replace the whole strut assembly, or just the shock itself?
- Will I need an alignment after?
- What would be the going rate to replace?

Thanks for the help!

They will use your spring with the new shock.
It is a common practice to realign the front end afterwards. I did.
It can vary. I paid $170 for the front end swap. But that did include installing my winter tires/wheels, but a guide, anyway.

It’s common any time you pull a strut pack and break apart the knuckle from suspension to redo the alignment.

Great, thanks. Was $170 from the dealer?

I asked the service guy @ my Ford dealership what they'd charge me for labor and an alignment if I wanted them to install a brand-new Fox 2.0 Stage 1 suspension package (that I purchased and provided).

Note that the Stage 1 package is nothing more than the front struts and the rear shocks. No UCAs. Nothing else. Struts and shocks.

They quoted me almost $1,200.00.

Anywhere will be cheaper than the dealership. Find a shop that specializes in aftermarket truck parts for the install.

OP, I would anticipate to be in the $500 range for strut swap and alignment from an independent shop.

Yeah $5-700 is what I was quoted when i asked around (not including alignment). If you have a friend with a garage, couldnt hurt to commandeer it for a half day and just throw them a case of beer or some pizza.

Recently had mine done at the dealership. Replaced with 4600's. $400.00 (labor) alignment included. Told me their spring compressor wouldn't compress the springs and they farmed it out to someone else. Said the only install Quick struts.

The Fox 2.0 kit includes complete coilovers for the front and shocks for the rear. There is nothing to do but R&R the four units.
