My payload is about the same as our Town & Country minivan. Just under 1400 pounds. That is pathetic given the size and power of the truck and how stiffly it is sprung. Embarrassing, really.

The way I read that chart is wheelbase determines the frame. The longer the wheelbase the stronger the steel.

One is not better than the other, they all equal the same yield strength.

I don't read it that way. Most lengths have the LD version, and LD and HD versions of the same wheelbase have the same yield strength.

I intentionally wanted a bare bone truck to ensure I got the payload I wanted. In effect when shopping that was the very first thing I looked at. When I found a good gently used 3.5 with over 2000 lbs payload, I went in that direction. I also have the HD frame.

Just spitballing a theory, but I think the HDPP trucks are made in Kansas City, so possibly to keep inventory easy, maybe more of them come with the thicker frame from there?

That is odd. The only difference I can see is that mine is a Lariat...I don't see why that would matter though.

To add to the above post. My truck was built in Kansas City.

All this tadoo about frame thickness and "do I have the heavy duty rear axle?"

I have yet see a significant thread on frame or axle failure for the latest F150 gen.

If the truck customer wants extra beef on the axle or frame (for whatever reason), the Super Duty is their calling.
