Default Which Engine Should I Get?

So I'm looking at getting my first F150 SCrew with a 5'5" bed 4X4. I haven't decided if I should go with the good deals that are going on right now on the remaining 2017's or order a 2018 that will be exactly like I want it.

It will be my daily driver that will be driven around 12,000 miles a year. I will also be using it for towing my boat and enclosed trailer, both of which are under 5000 pounds.

I also tend to keep my vehicles for about 8-10 years. So I am concerned about the longevity of the 3.5 EcoBoost vs the 5.0 V8. I have heard stories from people about the EcoBoosts being expensive to fix.

So let me hear your likes and dislikes with each engine. Thank you.

So any of the engines will fit your need...
Go and test drive some F150's to see what whets your whistle.
They are all good!.

They are all good engines, but 2 things, if you only drive 12k/year, ever look at leasing? secondly, Find a dealer with a lifetime powertrain warranty...Then you're covered, whether you have the 5.0 or Ecos. That also covers your 6R80 or 10R80 transmissions...

Trust your gut, go with the 5.0 it will fit your needs perfectly (as would the 2.7 and 3.5)

If you look at the forums it appears that the majority of the problems with the eco's are the engines that have had the tunes. I only have a little experience (about 8000 miles) with my 3.5 engine and it appears solid and definitely pulls my 6500 lb trailer without breaking a sweat. Do a google search on ecoboost longevity and you will find a lot of them with high mileage, well over 150,000 miles. If it were me I would buy the ecoboost if I were towing your load through the mountains otherwise I would probably get the V8.

My boat is about 4,500# which is the maximum I tow. I was very skeptical at first, but I went with the 2.7 after the dealer let me take it out for a couple hours. My 2.7 happened to have the 3.73 locking rear end, which I understand is rare, but it certainly helps with towing (and the butt-dyno), and I can still get 25 - 26 MPG highway @ 70MPH. The torque curve on the turbo motors is very wide whereas the NA torque climbs gradually and peaks somewhere around 4,500 - 5,500 RPM. Max torque that starts at under 2,000 RPM and continues to 5,000 RPM is the big difference with the turbos. You will feel it in the low end in either ecoboost option. I personally love this about the truck. For towing, especially in elevations, the turbo is going to shine.

Thanks for all of the responses so far. I have an appointment with a dealership next week and told the sales rep that I would like to drive both EcoBoosts and the 5.0 to see how they feel. If I do decide to go with the 5.0, I think that I will get a 2018 since I can get the 10 speed with it.
