[QUOTE=4x4wagon;5454878]GM will gladly sell you a pushrod V8 from the 1950s in a 2017 truck.

Some of us like technology that's a bit more modern.

Every engine will fit OPs needs, so they should get the best deal they can with everything else and worry about the engine second. My favorite feature was the locking rear differential. They might want a larger fuel tank, or other options.[/QUOTE

you took the bait, hook line and sinker

I bought my F150 to tow a 6-7k lbs RV. Since I was looking for a good deal on a used one I would have gone with the 5.0 or the 3.5 since either would get the job done. I ended up getting the 5.0 and I love it. My friend has the 3.5 and while towing the MPG is difference is like 1-2 MPG if any. If I had to do it over and was buying new I would probably still go with the 5.0.

yeah we bought our F150 to tow a 5000 lbs travel trailer. It came down to 2 F150s with the 2.7 and 1 with the 3.5 EB. All were the same SCREW 4x4 short bed but the 3.5 EB had the 36 gal tank and trailer brake controller.

We ended up with a 2.7L and I installed the trailer brake controller after we bought it. The savings on the one we got was several thousand less than the 3.5 EB which also had steep discounts.

I'd still go for the 2.7 over the 3.5 since we don't tow most of the time.

No sir. I don't tow. I don't haul. I'm a nurse by trade. no need for tools, trailers. Extra power, etc. I got the 2.7L because it gives me the best MPG. Why not get a Prius or C Max Fusion? Well I'm 6'6 and 330 pounds. I just fit best in trucks and that's all I'll ever drive.

I also enjoy a nice camping trip a few times a year.

I would suggest going with a 10 speed trans, that is either a 2017 3.5 or any in 2018. The smoothness is amazing and especially with the 3.5 it will hang in 9th or 10th gear even on moderate hills at hwy speeds.

Looking forward to going to the dealer on Wednesday to drive all three. Most likely I will get either the 3.5 EcoBoost or the 5.0 V-8. If I get the 5.0, it will definitely be a 2018 with the 10 speed. I like the fact that the EcoBoost has more torque and better mpg's. I really like the sound of a V8 though.

Yeah it's all about what you do with it. For us we bought it pretty much just for towing. Plus I was specifically looking for a platinum or loaded lariet and it was pretty much just 5.0 or 3.5 never saw one that didn't have one of those... maybe its the only engines that come in the platinum?
