If your shopping the lots, pay more attention to the as-built payload capacity on the yellow sticker inside the driver side door jam. Get as large of a payload as you can to handle people, supplies, and the tongue weight of a trailer. Many of the 2.7 trucks are built with a lower payload than the 3.5 or 5.0.

watch the mpg read out. there is no break in so whatcha get on test drive is whatcha get life of truck.

you said eco - id drive the 2.7 and 3.5. the 2.7 should easily give best mpg and be as peppy as other 2 ( or some say more) so make sure you check it out as well (and cheapest)

let us know how it goes.

If you're shopping 2017's, and will tow a bit...get the 3.5EB with the 10speed.

You must be refering to the one with the most power at the lowest RPM?

Shouldn't sound be the #1 criteria when choosing an engine?

To each his own, I like the power of the 3.5 EB while towing. Having said that I went to the coast the other day and I live in Southern Oregon with windy roads most of the way. I think if I was driving those daily I would probably want the V8. I think it gives a smoother acceleration coming out of a corner because it is slower to build torque and does it more evenly.

GM will gladly sell you a pushrod V8 from the 1950s in a 2017 truck.

Some of us like technology that's a bit more modern.

Every engine will fit OPs needs, so they should get the best deal they can with everything else and worry about the engine second. My favorite feature was the locking rear differential. They might want a larger fuel tank, or other options.
