Engine Advice
Hello all:
Looking to get a new F150 in late June. I have been doing my research and I have some questions regarding the engine choices. I have decided to buy the V6 Ecoboost after reading a lot of positive reviews on how comparable it is to the V8. I need to know how significant if a difference is it between the 2.7 Liter and 3.5 Liter. I plan to use the truck mainly for light duty use, city and highway driving. Maybe some towing now and then but not a lot. If anyone can give me unfit that would be great it a link to any website that would great as well.

its basically preference at this point for you if you only plan on light towing. the 2.7 is capable of towing 8500 lbs while the 3.5 is 12200 lbs. so if you dont plan on towing much i would say save the $1200 and go with the 2.7, i wouldnt base much on mpg as they are pretty comparable.. Now with all that being said i have read some stuff about tunes for the 2.7 that would put you in the same range hp/tq output as the 3.5l. Most tunes like this cost roughly $600 so you could feasibly have the power output of the 3.5l for $600 less. But like stated originally if you dont plan on towing a 30ft trailer then the 2.7 should be more then enough truck for ya. Hope that helps some. and GL with your purchase.

But the only way to know for sure is to go drive them both. Preferably with the same cab configuration, drivetrain (4x4 or 4x2) and axle ratio, and see for yourself.
Not necessarily. By law they must prove that the tune was the direct cause of the failure. Most of the time if you have an honest/close/open relationship with your Service Director you should be fine.

The 3.5 is The top of the line engine for the F150. The 2.7 is not offered for the higher end trucks. I believe in buying the best I can afford. This applies to almost everything. I find whatever it is usually lasts longer and performs better.
You have to drive them both. I drove all three and decided on the 2.7. The 3.5 was more fun to drive. All that power and 700 lbs less (I have a 3.5 in my 2011) was sooooo much fun. But at the end of the day the 2.7 was cheaper and has many reports that it often lives up to mileage claims, unlike the 3.5 has for me. The 2.7 will still get you there in a hurry. Google 2.7 f-150 review and you will see impressive track times for a 2.7 l engine.
If you trade trucks every few years then the EB would be fine, If you plan on keeping it past warranty I would go with the 5.0. The EB has only been around since 2011, with problems. I haven't seen anybody on this forum talk about putting a lot of miles on a EB yet, looks like most trade them every 2-3 years. You might want to google direct injection motors.
