My 2 cents I believe its all relative on how you maintain your machines.

It also went 100k miles with out an oil change. Also my buddy at work had to have his lifters changed out twice in his 6.2, under 40k miles.
Blah blah, a co worker of mine has a mid 90's Nissan Sentra that has never had an oil change and still runs strong. Stupid idea? Sure it is but he could care less if it blows up or not, he has like 6 vehicles at his disposal. Fact is, most any engine manufactured in the last 20 years can easily exceed 100k miles regardless of how well or how bad it's been maintained.

To the OP, for the driving you describe, I think the 2.7 would be the ticket. I have owned a 2011 and 2013 3.5 Ecoboost and just bought a 2015 2.7. All are/were 4 wheel drive crew cab trucks with most or all of the luxury items. So far I'm loving the 2.7. It is significantly better on fuel and the power difference is negligible. Keep in mind, I don't do any heavy towing but if I did, I would have stuck with the 3.5. I had plans to buy a 5.0 this time to try something different and the sales manager who is a friend of mine talked me into the 2.7. He drove all the new engines at a Ford event and liked the 2.7 so much that he bought one for himself. I'm happy with my decision so far. My truck has 3:73 gears and is sitting on 18.4 MPG lifetime right now at 1850 miles. That is a combination of city and short highway drives. I also went up a tire size the day I bought mine. I hope this helps with your decision but at the end of the day, all the engines are very nice.

Before you decide, you first need to decide what model and options are a must for you.
2.7 is not available in Lariat with Technology Package/Adaptive Cruise/Park Assist or with King Ranch or Platinum.
Go to Ford.com and build your F150 and see what options are available with the 2.7.
Just my 2 cents.
