Is The End In Sight? Ford Plans To Scale Back 5.0L V8 Production At Essex Engine Plan
#102
I went to the AZ plan website and looked at the different prices for the engine line up. The 2.7 eco is $800 more than the base 3.3. The 5.0 $1800 more, and the 3.5 eco is $2400 more. Ford is going to promote the powertrain that makes the most money for them. I have the 5.0 in my 2015 truck and the auto start/stop on the new engines are a total turn off for me. (pun intended) The only way the Coyote disappears is the find another engine for the Mustang.

It’s the website where Ford employees can find or build a vehicle. Sorry, you have to be an employee or retiree to access it. Your dealer should be able to give you A/Z plan pricing if you’re eligible.

Not by consumer preference or technical requirement but by Government decree....
So again, ecoboost would not exist if the market was free from Gov. interference ...
Good to notice that GM and RAM are NOT offering turbo V6s in their 1/2 ton and the advantage in payload and towing capacity that F150 have is mostly due to the Aluminum body....
GM and RAM decided to stick with V8s and pass CAFE tests using other tech which I think is a better way to address this problem (Gov. interference) than spending a fortune developing a stressed V6 and then having to find ways to lure the customer to accept it like Ford did. That is the reason Ford heavily market the ecoboost and not even mention the Coyote in the F150.... My truck came with no markings on what engine it has.... a V8....
Again, nothing to do with our - the consumer - will or needs.
I'm not saying that the ecoboost is a bad engine, I'm just saying that it only make sense because the way CAFE tests are set up. V6 with turbos have being in existance for a long time and there is a reason why , without Gov. interference, NA V8s have prevailed .....
The reason is because w/o Gov. interference, V8s are a more appropriate technical and business decision and what the customer wants....
Dis I mention Gov. interference ?

I guess the cost of manufacturing the 2.7 and 3.5 are nearly identical.
Harder to guess the comparative cost of the 5.0. The ecoboosts have the added cost to Ford to purchase twin turbos.
The biggest difference in cost to Ford between the engines may be the added costs of CAFE penalties.
Are you suggesting the 2.7 is built more like a diesel than the 3.5 and 5.0? If so what are the differences with the 2.7 that are more diesel-like? Seems unlikely.

Man the hate on the EB runs rampant. We get it, you don't like that a little motor can run with the big bad loud V8. SMH. As many would agree, who gives a F***. I don't, I ran out of those when I got married.
