OK So in addition to the post I made above about the issues I experienced (I know, not an F150 but it is something to be considered) with my 2016 Mustang GT, After being looked at four times by three different dealers the final analysis and fix was the following:

After verifying the vibration (55mph thru 70mph) in the center console and steering wheel, they used an MTS 4000 Vibration analyzer, they detected and verified a 4th order high freq driveline vibration. They suspected a ring gear deflection. After removing the rearend they found the backlash was out of spec (.009). They replaced the entire rear end, case and all internals.

They also found that the pinion flange run out was out of spec, they also replaced that.

They also found that the left/front and right/rear tire/rim was off by 15 lbs on the Hunter Road force balancing.

So far my car has been troublefree since Oct 2017!

Hope this can provide some insight into Ford driveline issues.

So my truck went back in 11/15. Picked up yesterday. The manager was not there to talk to to see what was done. When I dropped the truck off I told her about this thread and how these are the exact issues I’ve been experiencing from day one. Anyway, They said my alignment was off as well as my tires balanced. They pulled my diff cover to reseal it but never check my diff. I asked for them to give me an oil change and that never happened as well. Get in the truck to drive home and my truck is now pulling to the left, wheel shaking Instead of just the vibrating and my steering wheel isn’t straight. Great alignment job huh. Also, my auto start/stop isn’t functioning.

I picked mine up Monday and took it back friday. The rear differential rebuild didn't fix it. When I took it in, the service manager rode with me and confirmed that I wasnt crazy (concerning the truck at least).

Try finding out if there is a shop near you with an MTS 4000 Vibration analyzer. My dealership used it and nailed the vibration issue I had.

So I opened a new case yesterday. Dealer happens to call today with an update saying they had alignment done again and truck feels much better but still noticed slight vibration. So they decided to swap out my rims and said it drove great and they are waiting on approval from ford for new rims(something I asked them to do 6000 miles ago). How confident am I that it’s the fix, very little. My question to them was what about new tires? If they’ve been on a rim that’s out of whack, wouldn’t there be cupping or unevenness to the tire now. Anyway, they said there’s no signs of damage to rims but feel this is the problem so since they’re defective ford should approve it. I wonder how long this will take. I have much to say/ask new case manager.

Did they perform any tire balancing on a Hunter Road Force machine? That is great at nailing rim issues.

^^ was thinking the same thing. Runout will cause a vibration, which the balancer can detect, and imbalance is what the balancer is for.

Although the aluminum body is a great idea, there is something with the chassis/body design that makes it very susceptible to vibrations. A tire that is a little off would have never been felt on the old steel trucks, but sure as s*** can be felt in the new ones. If the vibrations are coming from the wheels, chances are the tire is the issue and not the wheel.

One day I bought a flat bed trailer, hooked it up and took a drive. When I hit 60 MPH the entire truck shook like it was in an Alaskan earthquake. The wheels on the trailer were improperly torqued, and the vibrations went right into the truck. There is a thread somewhere in the towing section where someone else experienced the exact same thing. Had a trailer that they towed all the time with an older steel truck, and hooked up to their new aluminum truck, had all kinds of shakes.

Get some snow in a rim and enjoy! I think I lost a few years of porcelain off my teeth that day.

Last month a asked to have them road forced and they said no. They didn’t think the wheels/tires were the problem. Now, all of a sudden, it’s the problem. Thanks guys for all your help. I will be recommending this tomorrow

So since this thread is at the top, my mind starts to wander. I just had to replace the entire rear end in my 2016 Fx4 Platinum after I noticed a whine coming from the rear end. They took apart the diff and said there was excessive wear along with metal shavings in the fluid. Of course, this happened at 64000 miles... Thank God I got the 100,000 mile warranty for free. I only had to pay $150. Still, this doesn't seem like a one-off issue. What made me perk up even more coincidentally was the fact that the had the parts in stock to fix it, which means this is a common issue.
