Default Driveline vibration fixed!

I've been dealing with the dreaded driveline vibration at highway speeds issue. After taking it to the dealer for the 5th time, we have found a smoking gun. Finally found a technician that knows what he is doing, pulled the diff cover and inspected the internals. He found the gear set to have a ton of wear, the carrier to have a ton of wear and a ton of metal shavings in the fluid. Measured the backlash, said it was in excess of .040!! Said he is going to replace everything in the rearend except the axle shafts, he checked the runout on them and they are fine. Parts are ordered just hurry up and wait for them to arrive. Fingers crossed this fixes the vibration!! Ill report back once I get the truck back..

Hope you found the cause and not the result.... Please post up after repairs are made.

Good luck!

They made you drive a RAM???

Actually, my old 2004 Ram 1500 wasn't a bad truck to drive, even if it drank gas like it was going out of style.

Long story short i work at a chrysler dealer as a heavy line tech, we have a ford store as well next door. I have been trying for 3 months to get my truck in to be worked on but they kept telling me they dont have a loaner. Finally I went to the General manager and said wtf? So he got with my service manager to get me something to drive. It has been at ford for over 3 weeks now, (was 3 weeks last thursday) and they just got it in to work on it today... First put me in a '18 3/4 ton diesel ram, drove that for 2 weeks, then told them I needed something with better mileage, thing was getting 15-16 mpg... So they put me in a new '19 1500 ram, so far its been getting 16-17 mpg highway... I like the middle console in the new ram, and the ride is nice, but that is about all I care for. The seats are terrible, the mirrors sucks, steering is too soft, seating position and door arm rest is in a bad spot for me... I very much prefer my Ford and remember why I did not buy a Ram last year..

I hope it works out. They found the same wear on my 2016 and replaced the entire rear axle with differential. Unfortunately, the vibration came back.

did yours have the e-locker? I'm curious as I keep seeing guys with their same issue but no mention of they type of diff they have. I'm wondering if there is a machine issue with the locker? If this doesn't fix it, I may swap a limited slip unit in there and see if that fixes it. New stock units are like $180 from summit, looking to swap 3.55 and one in the wife's truck after the first of the year, might do mine as well.

Well I went to the dealer today and checked out progress. The new e-locker is nice and tight with 0 slop in the center pin and spider gears unlike the old piece. They got it all finished up at the end of the day today. The tech called me on my way home said its smooth as glass and ready to go! hoping he is correct, gonna find out in the morning. Ill report back later in the day after I pick it up. Here is to hoping it is finally fixed correctly!!
