Default Does this sound normal?

2016 XLT, 2WD, Reg Cab, 2.7 eco, 3:31, 2500 miles on Truck

I have attached a mp3 of audio taken with my cell phone while holding behind my center console / driver’s seat area. Speed @ around 55 MPH on very smooth road, early morning. Noise is pretty much constant over 50 mph. Does this sound normal to anyone? Does it sound like Ring / Pinion gears?

I have been complained of faint whine / howl coming from rear of truck for weeks ( 800 miles on truck ) and have had no luck with dealer I purchased from 05/19/16. After taking to another dealer, test driving , pulling over and removing my tonneau cover to eliminate some wind / flapping noise. His answer was I don’t really hear anything out of the norm and vibration not excessive. I called my areas regional rep back and her answer is she isn’t a mechanic and has to go by what the Ford technicians diagnose, but I am entitled to take it to even another dealership.

1st Technician stated he could not duplicate noise, and vibration analyzer shows everything in tolerance. After they had agreed to check pinion angles because I had previously checked them and they are off a few degree’s. Invoice showed could not check angles, do not have the tool.

I know there are several good Tech's in this forum and would like to hear their input on this noise. Sound is definitely coming from rear, or at least from my seat back.

Does this whine / howl sound normal? Rear-end? Transmission? Should i be concerned?

Thanks

Sounds like mine also. Mine does it between 55 to 60 under light load. Took mine to dealer(dealers) and none of them could hear it. Sure is funny why consumers hear the noise but Ford mechanics can't hear noise, really strange!

Sounds like you're running mud tires... or I'd be semi-concerned with that sound as well. I don't hear anything similar in mine.

Michelin LTX / MS Tires , 2500 miles on Truck at time audio file was taken. Truck now has around 5K miles on it.

Before i got use to the noise, several times i would look in rear view mirror because i thought a 18 wheeler or dump truck was behind or passing me. Honestly, that is what made me aware of noise. There was never anything there and i finally realized it was coming from my own truck.

That is speed mine is more noticeable, however its there @70 especially if you let off throttle. Mine also can be heard around 40. Noise seems to be more noticeable under very light throttle / load or when letting off throttle going down incline.

I have the same exact sound coming from the rear of my truck. I only have 9200 miles. It's been really starting to worry me lately because the noise has been getting louder.

My truck started the same whine at 50mph after the first year of ownership. The local dealer says they all make that noise and no point in opening up the differential, ford wouldnt pay for it.

Amazing since i have had quite a few vehicles in my life and none of them have ever had a differential whine. Must be the new aluminum bodies...
