Differences vs competition
Towing ability / price ratio did it for me. I was on the fence about getting a GMC with the 6.2 and 8 spd trans but that engine combo is only available in the top trim level trucks. I didn't want to pay all the extra money for leather, heated seats, navigation, sunroof ect. just to get the most capable engine for towing. So GM was out.
I was also very interested in the Ram Ecodiesel. I shopped them against Ford but they were not willing to negotiate on price and value my trade in as highly as Ford did so I passed on them as well. Plus the Ecodiesel is under powered compared to the Ecoboost or the 6.2 GM. I also didn't want to deal with all of the potential emissions equipment B.S. that modern diesels are hindered with.
Ford had the giant super crew, the towing beast of an engine in the 3.5 eco and they had the XLT's priced right. When I found a dealer willing to do 10k off of MSRP out the door and to match NADA value on my trade I pulled the trigger.
11,000 miles since I bought it in November. Lots of that is towing. It does great. My only real complaint is a deceleration vibration between 40 and 50 miles per hour. Only does it when you are coasting at those speeds. I have not been motivated enough to drop it off at the dealer to get this looked at yet.

Just comparing engineering and build quality while on the lot made me go with Ford. I considered Ram for about a week, but decided against them after seeing the flimsy suspension components compared to ford and GM.
Stopped by a GM lot before I got my ford, and 4 out of 10 trucks had the power steering pressure hose riding hard against the power steering reservoir. I could see how it happened. Tightening up the pressure hose without holding it in place would push it up against the reservoir, but I just wondered what other things were discrepant that I couldn't see. And that was in plain sight.
You go to any harsh environment, and the fleet vehicle of choice is Ford, even though they may be slightly more expensive to buy than the competition.

Interior, MPG,Aluminum(hoping no corrosion/less compared to steel here in northeast winters). 2.7L turbo is awesome. Handles like a car/rides like a truck and fun of a mustang. Start/stop great at drive-thrus with long wait times for gas mileage.
Ford truck fan to start, but definitely like styling and all the features/updates better than competition. RAM would be second choice, Chevy interior needs a refresh for me. Engines/transmission combo on my cousins 14' silverado 6.2L isn't that great unless it was running high RPM (lots of added interior noise) sluggish shifting, ecoboost is way better IMO.
