Default $ difference between 2.7 and 3.5

Doing some build and price. Putting together a RWD Screw Lariat 502a, Max Tow on the 3.5, max tow pieces on the 2.7 since Max Tow not an option, Tailgate step, bed extender, tow mirrors, and sport package.

Difference between the two, the 3.5 costs $481 more. That is how much the Max Tow package saves when trying to outfit the least expensive engine option to match.

If I order one, I now know exactly what to order. I really like the way it looks too.

Yep. And the same features with a 5.0 is actually slightly MORE than the 3.5/Max Tow combination.

They really need to add the Max Tow option with all of the engines.

If you actually need the Max Tow package, why would you consider any engine other than the one with the most TQ?

The hitch is different with max tow. The steering is a different ratio with max tow and the springs are different with max tow. You can't outfit your truck with any of these unless you make a trip to your friendly ford dealers parts counter.

That's the first I hear about difference in steering... I wonder what the purpose is, especially since it's electric steering...

If you need max-tow, you need the 3.5. The towing capacity while good on the 2.7 is way down from the 3.5EB. I think it's around 8k lbs max but I would have to look at the towing guide to be certain.

I think the reason MT is only on the 3.5 is because it maintains it's power regardless of altitude. Now drop a Whipple and the 5.0 can do it as well. When I said to get the options to match MT, I meant available options such as 36 gallon tank, locking 3.55 rear, tow package, and ITBC. Of course if you want true max tow, adding all the other items from over the counter and now you are seriously way above the $481 difference of the 3.5.

One other item to note that I discovered later. You cannot get the tech package on RWD. Like WTH Ford!?!? In order to get it you have to spend another $3500 for the 4WD. bastriches

come down to the XLT sport package - add the rear and the gas tank options. I don't even know if you can do that.

On the steering thing - IIRC standard truck is a 2.8 turns lock to lock steering gear where max tow is something like 3.2 turns lock to lock. Gives you finer control a lower speeds - and the EPAS is calibrated differently.

8300 lbs towing on my XLT SCrew 4x4 Sport, Payload Package helps but my moonroof lowered it. I'm sure it would be even lower on a Lariat unless you don't get the moonroof. Tows 7500 lbs just fine but I wouldn't do it every weekend, or through the rockies. But my 5000 lb travel trailer tows easily every weekend of the summer anywhere I go. I have the regular tow package (not max-tow) and the payload package with 3.73 gearing.
