Default Delay from reverse to drive

What sort of delay (if any) do you experience when shifting from reverse to drive? I'm not sure if I inconsistently notice it or if it happens differently, but often after I back up somewhere and then go to drive it feels like if I were to give it gas immediately it would probably just rev and not go anywhere. I haven't tested this theory yet, because I absolutely hate that feeling and know it's not good on the transmission.

My father had a '95 with the 4.9 and it had a comically long time to go from reverse to drive, probably 5 seconds (it sure felt like it anyway). Shifted fine with no slip, just take ages to go from reverse to drive. Most of my cars have been manual, but I drove a few random other vehicles that were auto and never noticed any that had as much of a delay.

Is this normal or should I be taking it in to have them see if there's an issue?

I have the same thing, but I haven't taken note on the length of time. It seems to be faster when in sport mode though.

I have a delay going in and out of reverse. Feels like a couple of seconds. Most the time I don't notice it but when I want to do a move quickly I press the accelerator quicker then it shifts and the engine revs up. Not sure if this is normal or not on the 10 speeds.

I find it slow, but just assumed it's normal. This is my first automatic vehicle... I really wish there was a stick shift half ton...

I looked at various vehicles (not trucks) from Toyota, Nissan, Infiniti, Lexus and probably a few others I'm forgetting. I didn't test out the reverse to drive shift speed on all of them, but on the ones I did it was nearly instant. Even if you were rolling a little back when you go to drive it's pretty fast to go to drive and there's no thunk or bang. Years ago I had a Buick and it had similar slow times, but it was a '96 so I figured it was more just a product of its era. That's why I'm a bit surprised that my truck is doing this.

Wondering if this is perhaps an import vs. domestic difference much like imports typically having very touchy gas/brake pedals compared to domestics.

I also experience the delay from rev to drive. ITS FREAKEN ANNOYING. My 2015 sub legacy has this delay but luckily subaru had a tsb. From my research it seem like a common issue with CVT transmissions

Hmm, I mean I can get used to it if it's normal. Thinking back on it, I had a 5.0 Mustang not long ago that was auto and I never noticed it having a delay either so there goes my theory about domestic/imports...

Sounds normal to me and i`m sure every vehicle of the same type might have a little faster or slower speed while going from reverse into drive or the opposite.

Also, it might just need a software update.

Let us know what the dealer says.

Mine has a slight delay but not long enough to bother me. My Dad has a 20 year old Mazda B3000 (Ford Ranger) and it has a delay from reverse to drive and a looong delay from drive to reverse. But it shifts fine with no slipping. Must be a Ford thing.
