Ford Pass/SYNC Connect question...
Wife just got a 2018 Escape with Sync Connect. Today the Ford Pass app wouldn't start the vehicle. I assume the app is only as good as the current condition of the phone (restart the phone, check for app updates, ect). Has anyone had Sync Connect issues and found consistent resolve? Even when it was working, it seemed to take almost a min to start the car after pressing "start" 10 feet away.
Im in a major metro area so service shouldn't be an issue. She is not currently hooked into our wifi. Not sure if that has anything to do with it

In Carplay, if I try to answer the phone via the steering wheel, the screen flickers and it doesn't pick up. I have to manually tap the LCD in the centre console to pick up a call.
Hanging up works fine.
I didn't notice this issue until after the update, but I also had a iOS update at around the same time, so I'm not sure which is the issue.
Anyone heard about this?

"Jan 30 2018 5936 - 2016-2018 Various Vehicles - SYNC 3 - iPhone USB Audio Playback And App Link Functionality Issues
Some 2016-2018 Ford and Lincoln Vehicle equipped with SYNC 3 and connected to an iPhone recently upgraded to iOS 11.2.5 may exhibit a concern where USB Audio playback and App Link applications will not function properly. This may also include, under certain conditions, no Bluetooth Streaming. Apple is aware of the issue and is working on a resolution with a future iOS release. No repairs should be performed at this time. To check the iOS software level on an Apple iOS device, select Settings > General > About on the device. Monitor OASIS for updates. Customers can also check Apple Support or connect to iTunes for the latest available iOS release for their phone."

Of course it takes a minute, (Im impressed it isnt longer). Your car would take just as long to remote start if it were in Japan. The fact that it is physically 10 feet away is completely meaningless, the cellular commands bounce across Fords encrypted user authentication data servers nationwide before reaching the correct network, cell tower, and vehicle. There is immense backend authentication resources and network switching at play when you use Ford pass, it is not meant to be the same as standing beside your car with a radio frequency key FOB.
Any troubles ive had can be corrected by logging out and back in to the app which typically needs to happen after any app updates for security.
The only real problem Ive encountered is that the Ford pass app does not run well in the background in iOS. When I use the cellular remote start I need to wait for the start confirmation before switching back to home or use another app.

i am not impressed by the min wait. In 2000 that would be understandable. You can do a ridiculous amount of things today over 4G in that time frame
It takes time because your phone is not connected directly to your vehicle. Your phone sends the signal to Ford, which in turn sends the signal to your vehicle. Your car is not the only one on the server, so there will be slowdowns there as well as slowdowns in encrypting the signals (pretty sure you want this, so other people won't hack the signal to unlock your doors, etc...) It takes time for things to be sent over the waves in this way. If you want it to be more instantaneous, you will need to get the FOB remote start. We have come a long way with data speeds, but it still takes plenty of time for signals to move across large distances, physics and all that.
So it says coming in April, and...
"(Ford says its 2018 model year vehicles running SYNC 3 version 3.0 or greater will be able to run Waze on its touch screen at launch. Other SYNC 3-enabled Ford vehicles can receive an over-the-air update or an update via USB to enable Waze functionality.)"
SO could this be an official update to 3.0????
