I know you've used the original cable, but just try another one to rule that out.
Others have had problems with certain cables.

I need some help. I have a '16 F-150 with the latest Sync 3 version, and I upgraded the USB hub to be able to use Apple CarPlay after I bought the truck. There seems to be no way to update the Sync 3 apps now. If you try to update via the AppLink it asks you to plug in your iPhone, but when you do it goes into CarPlay mode and you can't update Sync.

Does anyone know how to resolve this?

You could disable carplay in settings, update, then re-enable carplay. May work that way.

I didn't realize that there was an enable/disable option in settings? I'll try that.

I had been getting the service temporarily unavailable error for over 2 weeks... But I checked this morning and it said it was preparing my download, and seems to be working... Still do not have the email from Ford yet, but I feel I am by far the closest I have been... I'd suggest checking the website again first... I will update everyone once/if I get mine updated properly!

Thanks!

Well I am still not getting the email with the link....

I was chatting with ford, and their response is now, We are experiencing a problem with the server that is preventing the update from being accessed. Consequently, you won't be able to install the update right now. We have our engineers working to correct the problem and hope to have the problem corrected shortly.

So I guess I was wrong and still will not be able to update

Beginning to get frustrated now... I guess I got my hopes up this morning finally clearing the hurdle that I had the previous 3 weeks! They are now saying less than a week, but I was told that same time frame over a week ago...

Also they told me that the issue had expanded and currently they were having more problems than before!
