I have a 2016 XLT that had ver 1.0 of Sync 3 and after being unsuccessful on my first install attempt of Sync 3 Ver 2.3, which I think was my fault for several reasons, I was successful the second time using just the instructions on the ford owners website. What I may have done wrong the first time was I didn't use a 32GB usb flash drive that was formatted with an exFAT file system and I stopped the install after it said it was complete, but according to the ford website I should have let it continue to run. On my second attempt, I bought a 32 GB flash drive and formatted it using Windows to a exFAT system. Then I unzipped the JL1T-14G381-AJ.zip file and copied the files onto the flash drive. I then safely removed the usb from the computer, started my truck and plugged the flash drive in my truck's usb port. The install started automatically and seemed to pick up from where I had previously unplugged it. Once the install was complete and after turning off my truck, exiting, and re-entering it and starting it up, the version listed was 2.3. I connected my phone to the truck with a usb cable and the android auto app worked. I'm finally able to use google maps and have it displayed on my truck's screen. Anyway, the update did work as described on the Ford Owner's website for my truck.

I just got a 2016 XLT with two blue usb ports under the display. It is a sync 3. The only thing I can find is last checked for update in July this year. Can I update the software by wifi/hotspot from my phone or do I have to download it from Ford's owner website? Sorry I've read through this forum but not really finding a clear answer.

Thank you

I have a 2016 XLT with two blue usb ports also. I followed the directions for the update on the ford owner's website. I downloaded the upgrade to Ver. 2.3 to my computer and followed the directions for the usb flash drive update. Make sure you have a 32GB usb flash drive and format it to an exFAT file system before you copy the upgraded files to your usb to install them in your truck's audio system.

if you connect your head unit to your home wifi, you should be able to update across it as well.

This doesn't seem to always work. It didn't work updating my truck to v. 2.3. I had to update the system manually.

Looks like it's your phone then. Make sure you are up to date on the software and have Apple carplay enabled in the settings of your phone.
